Hi there! I'm coming out of lurkdom again. :)
I got my acceptance letter to Emory over the holidays. I'm very excited about attending Fall 2006!
I have two pre-reqs left to complete and I'm a bit worried that I might be in a pickle. Here's the deal:
I've been re-taking some pre-reqs at Georgia Perimeter that were too old to qualify for the program. I retook A&P II last spring and Micro this past fall semester. For Emory, I need to take, according to their website, General Chemistry I and General Chemistry II (with an organic component). They had said at the open house that a nutrition class I had might qualify for the Chem II, but it looks like it didn't.
My first question to anyone who might know is: Does Survey of Chemistry II qualify for the "General Chemistry II (with an organic component)" requirement?
Supposing it does, I can register for Survey of Chemistry I at GPC for the spring semester. However, I don't think Survey of Chemistry II is offered in the summer at GPC, which leaves me in a bit of a bind. Anyone think they would let me take Chem I and II concurrently since I have 3 higher level sciences than Chem I and 3 higher level math classes than the pre-req for Chem I? Or, does anyone think I can take Survey of Chem I at GPC and then Survey of Chem II at GA State as a transient student in the summer? (The GPC and GA State Survey of Chem classes seem almost identical.)
Ok, enough rambling....just having a bit of a panic attack here. Thanks in advance for any advice/suggestions/etc.!
Another question here!Has anyone looked into the uniforms yet? Does anyone know what they're going to cost us? :)
I went today, paid $64.17 for Scrub top with embroidery, pants, lab coat. I have them holding the scrub jacket for me, since they didn't seem too sure about anything. I am emailing the school to ask about it, and find out if the jacket needs embroidery too.
Don't forget to ask for your 20% student discount! You HAVE to ask!

Heard loud and clear - will ask for discount!!
Yeah, I noticed they didn't seem too sure about the scrub jacket and stuff...do let us know what you find out!
Did anyone else notice the typo on the lab scheduling for Health Assessment? It says "Wednesday 10p-1p" is one of the choices - aside from it being wrong time of day wise, even if they meant 10a, isn't there a regular class there? Probably wasn't supposed to be a 5th option after all...Yet another question to ask them about...
Ok, so I stopped by the admissions office on the way to work this morning and this is what I found out.
Ms. Ryan, who is the final word is on vacation. This info was from the admissions office:
The scrub warm up jacket is optional, and they'd kinda prefer that you wore a white shirt under your uniform rather than something over it to stay warm. I'm going to wait and see on this one.
The scrub top and pants, well, just take what they give you at the store. As long as the embroidery is right, she didn't think they'd be all that picky. I wouldn't get crazy with that though, just take what is on the list at the store so that if they do make a stink because your pants have one pocket too many or something, you have a leg to stand on, so to speak. *Sigh* I can't believe I just paid for the priveledge of wearing high waisted elastic pants!
The lab coat the store suggested was right.
One more word of advice, go early. I got the last of everything in my size and I am very average in proportions! Try it all on, nothing fits like you think it is going to either. I am 5"7' and nothing fit but XS. That's never happened to me before! Embroidery takes 1-2 wks, and if they have to special order your size too... you can see where I am going with this. I know we have plenty of time, but those kinds of things wind up running away from you in the fall when you are scrambling around trying to buy books, get vaccinations, get a physical, do a TB test, do a drug screen, do umpteen days of orientation... whew. I'm tired already! Have a good day everyone!

Awesome!!!! Even an XS lab jacket was too big for me (and rather ugly if you ask me...)

Hmmmm....I really could not stand those pants...I'm halfway tempted to buy another type and just bring them in on the first day and if they don't like them, I'll just do an exchange...
I have to call them about the shoes, though, I'll let you all know...did you happen to catch when Mrs. Ryan was coming back? That's ok if not!
Thanks for finding all this out for us!!
Are you guys going to be using Macs or PCs for school work and/or study?
I have a PC - I KNOW that Emory's PC-compatible, and I'm relatively certain that Mac's are as well, so I'd think you'd be ok w/either...I'd check w/the nursing school, though - if they have any programs that we have to use, you'd want to make sure they'd work on either...

I see macs in the financial aid building, and a few other places I can't remember where.

Don't know when she is coming back.
Did you get the same pants as me I wonder? Mine have all these great cargo pockets, and no one will see that it comes up over my belly button since the scrub top covers it.
Be advised: thier return policy is 30 days, with receipt and all tags still attached.

All the software available to Emory affiliates. You might check out what is available for PC vs. Mac before you make your decision. I know that my PC has never given me trouble but my Mac coworkers have had some fits with network problems. Of course, I know more about fixing PCs than they seem to know about fixing Macs, so that could be all there is to it... ?

There are definitely PC's in the library - don't know about the Mac's, though - they are scattered around in various buildings, so I'd assume there's some in there...
Actually, I take that back, check here under computer availability http://infocommons.emory.edu/index.html ...looks like it's Dell-PC-dominant in the library!!
I'm a Mac user. I have an iMac at home and an iBook that travels with me. Seeing as how I just shelled out $2k for the iMac, I won't be buying another computer anytime soon. I've never had many problems though getting into school networks or running software. If need be, I just boot up VirtualPC to run software that hasn't seen the light of the goodness that is Mac. hehe ;-)

I was actually looking at the Littman Classic II and you are right, allheart has much better prices, its $20 more at Uniform Advantage. I don't think I need an electronic, its not that bad. I just need something louder than the $8 specials they gave us to use at GPC! Just been around too many firing ranges without earplugs! I am much more careful now that I am older/wiser (HAHAHA, right) but of course, the damage is now done.
