Emory D-ABSN 2021

Has anyone else applied for Emory’s Distance- Accelerated BSN for Spring 2021?

I submitted my application and materials prior to the priority deadline. Waiting to hear back on Nov. 13th. Fingers crossed!

Should I take no for an answer, or compromise and say, that since I am already an NA at a hospital that I can do some of my clinical there?

I don't have any insight to know if that would be likely to help at this point. I know they say they do rolling admissions, but I think it's done a lot more in chunks than they make it seem. If the faculty members that do the admissions decisions won't be meeting again before the start of the Spring cohort, it might not make much difference what you do. But, I don't think they would hold it against you for asking.

Haha she did not budge in my email! She replied, "I am sure that we cannot admit any more students to the Spring cohort. We will get your application reviewed as soon as possible" At least I tried. Wish I knew about this sooner! Would be ecstatic to get to know about the August deadline sooner!

Hi Jcnurse2b,

I just want to say that it seems as if it takes program leadership a considerable amount of time to get all the clinicals arranged in the applicant's hometown. I think I have spent a lot of time trying to gain an understanding of how the ABSN admissions team makes their decisions and one of the key factors is arranging clinicals. I am not sure if they disclose this adequately on their website.

All the best.

@queenrus any update for you yet!?

Hi Jc!

How's it going? are you getting ready for your Spring 2021 start? How about scholarship information? Has Emory provided that as yet?

Sooooo.......on Monday I decided that I would withdraw my application for the D-ABSN and instead be considered for the Master of Nursing program (15 month - on campus). I should get that decision by January 15. Fingers crossed.

Honestly, I think that with the D-ABSN program, admissions has to do a lot of work to find/arrange clinical sites before accepting an applicant. I think that's why my application was taking so long. It had been 2-3 weeks since I was told that my application was with the admissions committee.

I think for me, I love the idea of the distance program (having a 1 year old, and responsibilities of an 8 year old) and not having to move to Georgia. I had some conversations with my hubby and he is open to moving to Georgia if needs be and we have a plan to make an on-campus program work for me.

So how's it going? Have you formally accepted?

I am awaiting Duke, Vanderbilt, and University of Miami.

Hello! ? Nice to hear from you! I think for me, the D-ABSN program is ideal. I actually was previously in a nursing program but that didn't work out for me because they weren't really perceptive to my needs for extra time in office hours but that's a whole other story...

So now, I'm reapplying and have heard good things from admissions as to how accepting they are with their applicants! That's why I'm glad not a lot of people know about the program so I have a greater chance of being accepted. I was primarily looking at places in the NJ/NYC area, which is where I am and stumbled upon Emory's D-ABSN program. This is exactly what I would've wanted since I've never really responded well to the classroom setting, and have been doing fairly well in an online format.

Where are you located? I'm glad you have a great support system-- which is definitely needed in these times. Unfortunately, admissions gave me a hard no, that they were unable to accommodate making room for Spring 2021 because they have started the onboarding process. It was upsetting that I was just a few weeks off and that it sounded like they were eager to fill any spots! Hopefully, they'll accept me for their Summer 2021 cohort.

I have not applied to a handful of schools because of my ...somewhat tumultuous transcript. I've applied to NYU, Columbia, and now Emory. I'm so upset that I just learned about Emory because of the great opportunity it could eventually serve for me! Does anyone know of anyone that has gotten accepted's previous stats? I want to have some hope that they would accept me. Do they really just accept people based on location? (I am located in New Jersey, but also very accessible to New York City).

Thank you all for your help! Any insight would be appreciated.

Hi @jcnurse2b I have watched the webinar that Emory posted for the D-ABSN program several months ago (or was it last year?) and they have mentioned that they are unable to have clinicals in NYC but they have success with clinical placements in New Jersey and Connecticut.  So, I think that you will be fine with NJ. But definitely check out the webinar https://www.nursing.emory.edu/admission-and-aid/accelerated-program/distance-BSN.html at 36:25 seconds where they talk about it.

And apparently the average admitted GPA is 3.2 as per the webinar. I have seen on previous threads where for the D-ABSN, a poster was admitted with a 3.0 overall GPA and a 3.6 Prereq GPA. She also had a masters (username jebeh2018)

Let me know how it goes? But I think you were saying that it will not be until March to get a decision from Emory? That's so long.

Hi queenrus,

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your help. Quick update: they've actually emailed me and it went as followed:

"We have received your application and it looks like you are located in New Jersey. Unfortunately, we are unable to have DABSN students in NJ or NY. Is there any other state in which you could complete the program? We can place students in PA and CT and sometimes have NJ students complete clinical in those two states." I hope this is good news that they received my application.... I was hoping that they'd let me in for the Spring cohort LOL but it seems that's not the case.

I replied to the email that I was more than happy to. They followed up with an email instructing to phone the Associate Dean. He was a pleasant guy and even stated that the program serves to not stay in the way of anyone that wanted to be a nurse. ? I found that very nice and it spoke volumes about the caring nature of those that run the program. Unfortunately, I'll probably have to drive the hour or so to Philadelphia or Connecticut because I'm smack in the middle of New Jersey-- sucks because I'm so close to New York.

So decisions will be sent out March 15 or even later it seems. I'm quite a fan of the holistic process they boast and really hope no one else applies so that they'll be able to accept me! I have quite the tumultuous transcript but I have faith that they'll believe in me! Thank you so much for your help.

Oh! I also wanted to ask how often you meet for clinicals? Just gauging how often I'd be driving up.

Hi Jc! That's awesome news! And great that they are communicating with you. That's a great sign. I specifically remember the Director speaking about clinicals in PA and CT so they are very comfortable working with students who are willing to do clinicals there.

Keep up your positivity. I have high hopes you will get in. It sounds like a great program based on all of the posts I have seen.

Keep me abreast of how its going for you. Hoping that March 15 will come soon.

I should have my decision on January 15 for the MN program. Fingers crossed as well.

Take a look at the curriculum on the website, it will show you the number of clinicals you will have per course. I believe your first clinical will be on the Emory campus. Correct me if I am wrong?

Hi!

Hope everyone is doing well!

Just jumping in on this message thread. Does anyone know if Emory accepts students from Texas? I couldn't find anything online about the states the accept? Thanks!

Hi asquared20,

Maybe a year or 2 ago Emory had a document posted which listed the states one could pursue the program from. However, that document is no longer available to prospective candidates and instead you will need to send them an email ([email protected]) and ask them about your specific city/state.

Good luck!

Hi @queenrus

Thanks so much!
