Has anyone else applied for Emory’s Distance- Accelerated BSN for Spring 2021?

I submitted my application and materials prior to the priority deadline. Waiting to hear back on Nov. 13th. Fingers crossed!

The education is what you make of it, as it is with all other distance-based nursing programs. It is a reversed classroom so you watch the lecture before and come to class ready to discuss and ask questions. The problem is the clinical and the administration of the program. There is a lack of communication and they won't even give you access to your own hours. They use a "formula" to figure out how they are going to calculate the virtual hours and they are not transparent about what that is and what hours we have completed.

They also have changed requirements and expectations for graduation while we were in the program without warning.

Hey,

Could you elaborate on clinical expectations? They were transparent with me on the fact that they really don’t know where to place me yet. Will this interfere with breaks and such? Also when did you do your first hand on clinical simulation in Atlanta? Did they do that in November or December? Also do they make you do clinicals over breaks? Thanks!

Originally, we were told there were not going to be any breaks, but then we ended up having some breaks. We went to Atlanta the Saturday after Thanksgiving and were there for able two weeks. They told everyone during orientation that they didn't know where they were going to place us. Most of us didn't find out whether or not we had placements until a week before we started clinicals. There are others who never got placements and are now trying to make sure they get hours to graduate on time. One of my classmates is now having to fly back to Atlanta every weekend for three weekends in a row while also having class three days a week. Then has to go for a full three weeks to finish her hours in time.

But do they take care of you guys if you do have to fly back? Do you have to pay for your own airfare and housing when/if you do have to fly back?

Also, were you able to work while in the program? I'm not sure how I'll be able to work if I have to fly out to Atlanta for 2 weeks off.

Thanks for your help. I know it's frustrating but I feel as though Emory truly cares about their students. Coming from someone who used to go to a state school nursing school, their level of dedication to their students seems far more significant than that of my experience.

@jcnurse2b I got a call from the school and they mentioned that cost of $77k covers your airfare/hotel every time you are flown in.

Hey! I was just accepted for the Spring 2022 cohort and I am wondering if anyone on this thread did clinics in the Myrtle Beach, SC area or knows of someone in their cohort that did.  Thank you!

Hello!

For those who are in the program, do you recommend renting textbooks? Or which textbooks do you think NEED to be bought? Thank you!
