Hi everyone!
I figured I would start a thread for the upcoming application cycle for Emory's ABSN program. I am excited to get everything in and apply, I am just waiting to take my TEAS.
Yes! I got a small grant and a few options in loans but I will have to take out a huge private loan. I'm hoping that merit-based aid will come through but I really have no idea.
I know they do try to match any other offers so if you applied anywhere else and got a competitive offer make sure to submit that!
Same here. I got a small grant, as well, and a really tiny loan (to the point where it's really insignificant to the cost of the program), and so I'm really hoping merit-based aid pulls through, too. I'm still waiting to hear back from other programs and my guess is I won't know about merit-based aid until later for those, as well, so it's all kind of up in the air! I don't know if I'll be making it to student admit day, though, because I'll be coming from the Milwaukee area and have a lot of hurdles like work to get through in order for that to happen. I was hoping we'd know about merit-based decisions by now so I could plan accordingly. Will you still be going regardless of the loan you have to take out? Mine would be around $70k, and that just seems impractical to me at this point.
Yeah I just got an email and guests are not allowed, and I'm in Chicago and don't really want to do that whole trip alone.
I'm in the same boat so I'm really not sure what to do.. I got into some smaller schools and got better aid but Emory is such a great school I'm not sure at what point spending that much money is worth the better name and education.
Mgates, that's awesome that you've already heard from other programs! Knowing myself, I would do what's most financially feasible. But I guess we won't know until we hear back about merit-based aid, and then we can take it from there. I'm surprised that you can't bring guests. That seems odd to me! I was going to bring my mom, too, if I went. Keep me posted on what your plan is! At least we know we aren't alone in this situation. I just hope I get into other schools now.. haha. Best of luck with the merit-based aid stuff!
For anyone wanting to know about merit scholarships, I got a merit scholarship, and I heard it was a good offer coming from Emory. However, the amount per semester was really low (just a few thousand) compared to how much it costs per semester to attend. I'm sure I could take out a loan if necessary, but I'm currently waiting to hear back from some public institutions I applied to. Paying $70k+ for tuition and even more to simply live in Atlanta sounds unfathomable to me right now lol. That's a lot of debt for a bachelor degree.
We are working diligently to have financial aid packages released for students on February 15th. If you have already submitted a FAFSA, the main Office of Financial Aid is reviewing your eligibility for need-based aid opportunities. Once a need-based award is available for you to view, you will be sent an email directing you to view your updates on OPUS. Concurrently, the Office of Enrollment and Student Affairs is working to award merit-based aid scholarships by February 15th. If you are awarded a merit-based scholarship, you will get a separate electronic communication directly from the Office of Enrollment and Student Affairs and you will see the merit-based award in OPUS at a later date.

Hey everyone! When you say financial aid package, are you including any merit-based aid, as well? I received my financial aid package awhile ago, but it covers nearly nothing! (I haven't heard back about merit-based aid, though). With that, I feel like I really cannot afford the program and don't want to take out that big of a private loan. Anyone else in the same boat?
