i know some of us have received our letters so i was wondering who else i will be making this journey with for the next 2 years.
my name is allison shaffer and it's nice to meet you. i know we will all be close because it's a small group. it would be nice to get to know some of you before november 17. :)
I have just checked our class size. The lecture class has only 32 people. Our clinical group has 6. I assume there are some people who have to repeat second semester so that adds to the numbers later. But it means that there were 18 people who quit NLC nursing after the first semester.

18! wow....
A few years ago (less than 5) El Centro was offering an 'accelerated' ADN. Some students could go all year with no summer breaks. They tried it as a pilot program, but it was not sucessful. Maybe this new pilot program is so they can revamp the nursing program and take more students in. Three times a year admissions would be great. I would jump at the chance to take the pain all at once and go straight through!
Oh! Did you guys see this? It's a series running in the DMN about L&D at Parkland - very good - and the video and sound clips are great.http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/localnews/stories/061206dnmetmoms.d9b9669.html
Great video GAUGE!
They REALLY need to build a women's hospital in Dallas. Parkland need to be split into three hospitals, Parkland Women's Hospital and Parkland General Reveiving Hospital!

Brookhaven has the Accelerated ADN, but I guess they have corrected the mistakes from ECC. It seems to be a good program.
I still wouldn't like the interview part. I don't have a problem with talking to patients, but intervies make me nervous.

I wouldn't want an interview either Funnie,
I've met a couple of the profs in the nursing program at El Centro on my many trips to the top floor of that building. They scare me silly. I'd make a complete doofus of myself in any interview!

They're harmless! They're gruff exterior is all an act Well- at least for most of them.
IS anyone needing the first semester book packet let me know. I dropped out last semester and now have these books. I no longer need them + i have some other study guides, drug cards and some other books.
The books are changing for 1st semester students. Well, at least some books are. The NLC orientation for Fall' 06 starters is June 20th, and we won't find out about books until then.

You will be so thankful for this once the semester starts and the massive amount of reading material is slammed in your face. You will be way ahead of most of your classmates! GOOD DECISION!!!!! I would have killed for that choice!!
Good luck to you throughout the pilot program and the nursing program.
