i know some of us have received our letters so i was wondering who else i will be making this journey with for the next 2 years.
my name is allison shaffer and it's nice to meet you. i know we will all be close because it's a small group. it would be nice to get to know some of you before november 17. :)
Mysterious_one,AHH! I see that....if that's what I am supposed to be looking at then I got 91% and 70%. That means that I did pass.....very happy! I was hoping I did! It just sucks not knowing and waiting. Thanks!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!! We're here for you through this long wait 'til October :) Good luck!!
I have just checked our class size. The lecture class has only 32 people. Our clinical group has 6. I assume there are some people who have to repeat second semester so that adds to the numbers later. But it means that there were 18 people who quit NLC nursing after the first semester.

WOAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's unbelievable.
That is a lot.
Nursing school is a lot harder than a lot of people think it will be, even for great students. You cannot tell someone ahead of time how it will take over your entire life for the entire duration. Some students & families just are not prepared to deal with it no matter how prepared they think they are.
Even so - 18 is a lot.
Oh! Did you guys see this? It's a series running in the DMN about L&D at Parkland - very good - and the video and sound clips are great.

you have to register to view it - or you can use http://www.bugmenot.com if you dont want to register.
I heard that they don't let any 1st semester students go to Parkland. Is that true? Does everyone do the same kind of clinical in 1st semester (everyone at Med / Surg. or whatever)? Does every 2nd semester student do OB / L&D? I'm just curious.
I am going to PARKLAND!!!!!!!I will have OB/L&D at Parkland. Wow.:balloons:
The new clinical schedule for second semester students is on eConnect.
What are your clinical sites?
Katie
Looking forward to watching the video, thanks for posting it.
Katie....Congrats on Parkland. You will DEFINITELY learn so much!

I think so. You only learn a certain amount of skills, and a certain amount of meds each semester. Also, there are only certain hospitals that will allow 1st semester students.
Meds include some oral and eye drops first, and so on...... IV's aren't until last semester.
Gauge....I watched the video....It is a great one.
How is it going? What do you cover this summer? How many check off do you have? And when will it end?![]()
Katie
we are doing 3 skills, (Vitalsigns, sterile Woundcare and Catherisation). The class is for the month of June. This is a new pilotprogramm, they are testing to see if it helps in terms of the big load in the actual first semester. I know they don't offer this at NLC, and i'm not sure if they will for the spring semester. I guess they will see how it will affect us. The hardest is, that we have to learn 15 chapters of medical terminology in 3 weeks, it's just to much to retain. Other then that, it is ok, besides the stress off the check offs, which you will have 3 tries, pass or fail.

Congrats Katie :)
18 people quit?! Wow, that number really surprises me. As hard as it is to get in, I would think people would try to move the earth to keep their spots.
