A lady gave me a yellow paper to fill out and she told me to put nursing to the associate of applied science degree part. That was it.

Here is the ISBN # and a link for the book "Dimensional Analysis for Meds, 2nd ed". by Anna M. Curren.

GAUGE14V suggested it. I found it at Amazon and half.com.

ISBN: 076685938X

Thank you for finding that! I ordered mine so I hope it does help. It was only $20 which isn't too bad compared to most books!

Is anyone going to have financial issues with paying for school? I just totaled up the books listed on the sheet that I could find on the internet and it totalled around $500. Does anyone know about any scholarships, grants, etc. for nursing students? This is just crazy. Financial Aid won't approve me for anything and I keep hitting dead ends. I can't even get approved for a loan!!!! :uhoh3:

See if you can find a hospital who will help you pay for school by agreeing to work for them afterwards...

Limited financial aid is the down side of community colleges unfortunately. At least at a university they account for living expenses.

Used books are FINE IF they are the same edition. I wouldnt buy any books until the first week of class honestly - the editions change every couple of years, and you may find that you buy one now only to have a new one come out in Jan and they wont take the old one back at all because now they are using the new one!

You will also find some instructors who will say that you don't really need this book or that book. Best to wait...

Thank you for the advice. I knew the financial strains coming in this but now they are really in face since I actually got accepted. Thank you for your support :)

Oh and one more item...

IF you meet certain criteria - ie: creditworthy or a creditworthy co-signer...

http://www.salliemae.com

They loan up to 40k a year pretty much no questions asked. Their interest rates are not as low as say stafford loans but still reasonable and cheaper than financing things on your credit cards when stuff gets squeaky.

You can apply online, and have approval within a couple of days and a check in your hand in about 2 weeks. They send the money straight to you.

Under private or tuition answer loans....

I was accepted into the nursing program back in 2001 and that is why here in 2005 I am going back and the reason is all because of money. Couldn't afford the program back in 2001. Now though I have loans and we have some money saved up and my husband is working 2 jobs and we are living with my parent's to save money just so I can finish school. I would look into as much possibilities as possible. If someone turned you down for 1 loan go to the next person. There is someone out there that will give you money for school!! I use to think that after 5 times of applying for loans and being denied that I wasn't ever going to go to nursing school. Pell grants is what paid for me to go when I first started to go to school but after so many credits they won't give it to you anymore. Anyways try as many places as possible and good luck!!

Yup - squeaky wheels get grease I always say...

I handle financial aid for myself and 4 kids - that is 5 (FIVE!!) fafsas a year, and I can tell you my kids who are at a University are getting about 6-8 times the finaincial aid of the kids who are taking the same number of hours at a junior college.

As I said in another thread - don't be afraid to take out loans - you will be working and making money and able to pay them back, some employers will pay them back in the form of a sign on bonus, and this is an investment in YOU!!!!

If you don't go to school, you will have lost how many years of income versus paying back loans? do the math!

OU.....the EYES of Texas are apon you! LOL

I wish they would send out more of the info to the rest of us. What happens if you're called the first day...you know NOTHING!

Anyway, the other posters gave good advice. There are probably more student loans out there you could try, move in with parents/relatives/friends/befriend an enemy..:chuckle

Anyway, just thought I'd stop by to say good luck to you all! :)

OD: Abbreviation (Latin) for "right eye".

OU: Abbreviation of "each eye".

New JCAHO regs state that these abbreviations should NOT be used anymore - but on occasion you will still see them written by docs. They are supposed to write out Right eye, Left eye or Both eyes.
