El Centro students Spring '06

i know some of us have received our letters so i was wondering who else i will be making this journey with for the next 2 years.

my name is allison shaffer and it's nice to meet you. i know we will all be close because it's a small group. it would be nice to get to know some of you before november 17. :)

Do you want to transfer to NLC? ;)

I guess it doesn't make sense to transfer for the last semester. We will have the same instructor this time and I am sure she won't let us take a test twice.

I am looking forward to a "non push-over" instructor! She seems like she won't take anything from anyone! It's about time!! :monkeydance:

My classmate told this story on Monday:

She is married to an Irish man. His parents came to visit them in Dallas. The parents don't know that my classmate is studying nursing. So they started talking about their jobs in Ireland and mentioned to my classmate that certain jobs were taken by immigrants, jobs like hmmmmm.....hmmmm.....like fish and chips fryers and nurses. :rolleyes:

My classmate couldn't say a word at that point. She told us that the in-laws are very nice people but they think that cooking fish and chips is as hard as nursing. Ok, we just laughed on this. :lol2:

Nursing really has a common misconception. My in-laws and many of my friends don't understand why I need 2 years of school to learn to wipe butts

OMG you guys. There's some major stuff going down at ECC today lol. Our teacher went back and rewarded everyone 2 points on the cardiac test so there were about 5 or 6 people who went on to 4th semester because of these 2 points. There's now a girl trying to appeal a question back on the respiratory test because she's still not making it by .3 points. There's one girl who's particularly upset because she had to repeat 3rd semester because of 2 points on the final and our teacher didn't do anything to try and pass her on....oh man...she's livid...I would be too if I were her. You guys already know when she let us retake the respiratory test. There would have been half the class not making it had they not been able to retake that test. There are a lot of people who worked their tails off all semester and passed without any help and they're sooooo mad. I'm not upset about it because they can't ask for extra points or challenge questions on the NCLEX so it will catch up with them someday, in my opinion. These extra points will only carry them that far. And here I thought the summer would calm everyone down :lol2: It's calmed me down- I couldn't care less about this drama....it's sooooo not worth my emotions.

OMG... something similar is going down at THR! All of the test averages went up after the final, and I "heard" that someone who needed 10 more points on the final to pass, some how is now passing!?!?!?!? 3 people who knew they failed after the final, are now passing... it's just amazing how they pick and chose who to give points to b/c overall we lost 9 people (2 at drop date).

p.s. I didn't get any extra points!

wow.....wish I could have played all semester if I knew I would be passing in the end anyway....this school is so amazingly messed up...can't wait to go to a more professional program when I go for my BSN.

Did y'all have a recommended reading list? We had a 3rd semester schedule posted, but it doesn't have the reading.

Did y'all mainly use IGGY for non-psych material?

I am bored, and I know I'll stay that way. This is the first time I haven't taken a class since November 2004.

I am amazed - the same type drama at ECC for 2nd semester too!!!! After our final several people needed a few extra points - one even needed 5 or 6 points to pass. Guess what, it seems that everyone got enough points to pass!!! I've heard the school is up for re-accreditation - I'm sure it wouldn't look very good if they had so many people failing; however, 1st semester lost alot of people compared to our class last semester!!! Not sure what is happening!!!!

I'm on the boat with FUN - I want to know what types of other books everyone bought that helped them with 3rd semester. I'd also like the reading list/schedule if anyone has it. Thanks bunches!!

We used Lewis but many of us read both Iggy and Lewis. I can give you the Lewis chapters if you want them.
