ECPI versus Wake Tech, DTCC, Wilson, or Barton

U.S.A. North Carolina

Hi. Im looking for anyone who will be attending ECPI/Medical careers i nstitute starting Aug 2nd in Virginia Beach.I need info about Lpn/Rn program.:)

Hi Monique. I am enrolled in the August LPN class at MCI in VA Beach. It starts on Aug 1st.

The cost for the school is $19 thousand. You take an entrance exam and if you pass, your in. I bombed out on the math portion so I have to take a math class there next month so that I wont be behind in pharm.

As far as the RN class goes, I'm not really sure when it starts but I believe there is a class in Aug. They have just started the program and from what they told me the students who are in it now that were not already LPN's are really having it rough. They told me that they have not had anyone go to boards yet so who knows what the pass rate will be.

The pass rate for the LPN program is 95%.

I'd be happy to give you more info if you have any specific questions.

Hey everyone, I haven't been on here in a while but I just wanted to say that Wake Tech is not nearly as hard to get in as everyone makes it out to be. It's a good program and inexspensive. I used to be so worried I wouldn't make it in I also considered Watts, Ecpi, etc. I'm so glad I did not go that route! The truth is if you make good grades you get in. Goods grades being mostly B's in Bios, a couple A's, and a couple C's. The more pre-req's you have under your belt the quicker you get in!! Hope this is encouraging to anyone trying to get into Wake Tech's ADN program.

Butterfly - Yes that is encouraging. I have been working on pre-reqs and am ready to apply. Thanks for the encouraging words about Wake Tech.

I am in my last semester (I hope) at Forsyth Tech. It is a good idea to get all the pre-reqs out of the way. Nursing school is way too hard to stay focused on all by itself. Good luck to you and the other readers also. Happy Nursing!!

Hi,

I'm planning to apply to Wake Tech next spring. I have a B.A. and an M.S. in a social science field. Do you think that will put me at any advantage over others who apply with just a high school diploma or cc experience?

You should find out how they weight their wait list. I had heard that Wake Tech's wait list is "unweighted" meaning that students whose applications are in before yours get to enroll before you. Your prior degrees will not influence you application. I believe that Durham Tech is different. If you have your pre-req's complete and do what other requirements that they ask, i.e. complete your NA program, complete other non-nursing degree classes, like A&P I&II, micro, psychology, sociology, and other "general courses", which your former degrees should fulfill, you can actually jump ahead of others who have not completed these requirements.

Anyways, best of luck.

Hi Everyone,

I have a few questions about ECPI. Hopefully, someone will have the answers I need. How much does the LPN Program cost in total? Do they offer day and evening classes? How often do there classes start? Most importantly, is there a waiting list?

Are there any other LPN programs in the area?

Thanks in Advance for your help!

If you go to the program's website:

you can fill out a form to request an information packet to be sent to your home.

This is probably a little late but I called them about a month ago as I'm considering moving from CA to NC for school. They still had two spots open for the June program at the Charlotte campus. The cost was either $20,000 or $22,000.

There very expensive. I would never pay more than 8k for a LPN program and they are over 20k. RN programs are cheaper or equal in price to that and you will have more advancement opportunities and pay in the end.

Cherish is so right........ they are very expensive. I went to an information session at the ECPI Charlotte location and I was told $24,000 for the LPN program. They do have day and evening but I thing the evening classes takes you longer to graduate. The good thing about their program is that if you do well on the ATI test your in and you have more opportunities to apply verses the normal once a year Community College programs. Mostly all of the Community Colleges in Charlotte and the surrounding areas offer the LPN program and it is much more cheaper.

Good Luck with whatever you decide:wink2: .

Yes, the program at ECPI is definitely very expensive for it to only be an LPN program, but you have to base your decision on your own individual needs. If you can afford it and don't want to wait to get into somewhere cheaper, than why not go to ECPI. I am currently an evening student and work a full-time job, as though many of us do in my class. This program was a better fit for me due to the fact that I'm not married and do not have any financial support from any family, so I needed to keep a full-time job. Believe that when I heard the actual price. . . my eye balls did get big, but I figured it was the best way to get my foot in the door as a nurse without having to wait 2-3 more years to be able to financially afford to attend a day-time program.

I'm not sure if anyone has looked at Watts prices, but the last time I checked they were around the same price for the RN program.

My plan is to sit for the state board in Dec/Jan and apply to get my BSN, with hopes to move on to an MSN as a CRNA. Good Luck to all future nurses whether LPN or RN. One key thing is to make sure you always surround yourself with positive people because they'll give you that motivation to get you through it all.

Check into Vance-Granville CC in Henderson. No wait list (point system based on merit, etc). I paid around $500-700 each of my five semesters...I was able to work between 20-30 hours a week with this program; others in my program worked full-time. LPN (1yr) and RN (2yrs) programs available. I graduated last month and am currently waiting to take the boards.

Thats what I am saying why pay for an LPN program when you can go to an RN program for the same price. PLUS the Watts program has an optional 3 yr commitment with Duke Hospital that will pay back the cost of tuition. I doubt ECPI has an agreement with a hospital to pay back that tuition. But its your choice to become LPN or RN. I personally would never become an LPN for that price though, not without me knowing someone else will be paying for the tuition (i.e. tuition reimbursement).
