ECPI versus Wake Tech, DTCC, Wilson, or Barton

U.S.A. North Carolina

Hi. Im looking for anyone who will be attending ECPI/Medical careers i nstitute starting Aug 2nd in Virginia Beach.I need info about Lpn/Rn program.:)

Hi Monique. I am enrolled in the August LPN class at MCI in VA Beach. It starts on Aug 1st.

The cost for the school is $19 thousand. You take an entrance exam and if you pass, your in. I bombed out on the math portion so I have to take a math class there next month so that I wont be behind in pharm.

As far as the RN class goes, I'm not really sure when it starts but I believe there is a class in Aug. They have just started the program and from what they told me the students who are in it now that were not already LPN's are really having it rough. They told me that they have not had anyone go to boards yet so who knows what the pass rate will be.

The pass rate for the LPN program is 95%.

I'd be happy to give you more info if you have any specific questions.

Thanks again....well I found out that here the local CC gives LPN's first choice over "new applicants" with no Nursing back-ground. You do have to take 2 classes first tho,..I can't recall right now the names, ...but they are sort of an over-view of what all you have learned in PN school... I was told "first hand" ( via one of the Admission people) that when its all said and done (after I have my LPN Lic , take the 2 required classes etc) that I should have NO problem getting in!!....Only time will tell tho....so we will see.........

You just have to take the TEAS test to get in. The downside about the school is its cost $23,500. The upside, no prereqs require. Once you get the LPN degree. You can go into the LPN to RN transition program which is not as competive to get in. In others words, it the expensive way to get the RN degree, but in the long run its worth it.

tab65....is that cost for the new part-time PN program? Or for the day/full time one? I ask only becasue last I spoke to one of the Reps there, they said around $19,000,..this was a year ago tho...so wow must be a recent increase....

Oh and ps: are you or will you be attending there?

Thanks!!

I apply for the one in Charlotte, and that was the price they gave me ($23,500). Reason I remember so well because I was going to relocate

Charlotte, however at the interview Jason McKito gave me that enormous price. So I stay in New York, here the most expensive LPN program is $12,000. However I pursuing the BSN now. My grant take care of everything.

Thanks for the information. I sent you a PM last week with some other questions.

I also found out that the current cost for this year is $23,500. After reading about the $19,000 I emailed the lady I have been in contact with at ECPI and she said that was last years cost. It's expensive but I think I am still going to try to go this November in the evenings, depending on how the schedule will be and if my classes from community colleges will be excepted.

drh 2000....

Hi there!! I thought I had replied back to you?...So sorry if I messed up!! I will go back to my pm box in a few moments and make sure I had not neglected a response to one of your pm's to me...

Yeah, that # of $23,500..kinda blew me away..Wowsa!!....but here's the "up" side so to speak...After the financial aide, etc...( I'm hoping) the final cost will only be a fraction of the total... We will have to see tho....In any event, I'll keep you posted..

That's fine, I completely understand. I was looking back to make sure that I wasn't telling you wrong. The last PM I got from you was on 7/25 and I sent you a reply on 7/26. Also I emailed you on like Friday or Saturday...Did you receive it?

I still haven't totally decided what I wanted to do as far as where I should attend. I wish they would give me some sort of course outline or something, so I could know what that looks like and could try to decide something...

Thanks again!

drh 2000,...

I "Had" a course outline that they gave me last year. I don't think they changed that much from last year, so I will look thru my papers and get back to you..ok? Also ..my news right now is not good,...for two reasons...

#-1,.I went there yesterday. It took us ( hubby went along..) Anyway we left at 10-55-am and it took us exactly 1 hour-20 minutes...Arrived at the schools from door exactly 11:15,..and thats with NO traffic!!,..I mean it was fairly clear sailing all the way to 440....of course things picked up once we hit the exit. By the way my hubby drove,...translation...."Speedy Gonzalas"....

I am way concerned now because if it took us that long ( with no traffic), I am wondering what it will be like (time wise) in getting back and forth once school actually begins..ugh!...I guess in order to get to class on time ( 8-am), I would have to leave home around 6-am-ish, to allow enough time for all the hussel and bustle of the normal morning traffic etc..

#-2,...Another BIG concern is the cost, as I met with the financial aide person and yes,..I heard it first hand from the "horse's mouth so to speak..) that it IS actually $23,500...an increase of almost $4,000!!! Anyway, I also found out that my financial aide Won't cover it all...not by a long shot!!!!!!! You see we earned too much last year ( heck I earned too much just by my salary alone!!) and so in order to make "it work",..we would have to either set up an payment plan of $1,100+ per month OR take out a personal loan to the tune of $13,500+.... Seems that since this is a "Tech school" and not a Degree program..things are handled different...

So,.....right now I can safely say..."Fat chance" of my attending!! The Gal there who's helping me, said that she is going to look into a couple of other possible options and get back with me....They are really trying Hard ,..so we will see... If all else fails then I may very well go the local CC route!!...

Anna (wasted-enough-time)...

Sorry to hear about your day yesterday and everything not going to good. Like fayethlove says, everything happens for a reason. That's what I always tell myself when something doesn't go right or whatever. Hopefully they can work out other options for you. I know what you mean about wanting to go ahead and get it over with...that's the same way I feel and the #1 reason I am even thinking about ECPI. I don't want to have to wait till next fall and take the chance of not getting in, but if I can't get financial aid/grants that's what its going to be for me too.

I also have the same dilema with the driving time...it's not but about an hour away but in the afternoons with all the traffic who knows how long it could take me. That's why I am wanting to find out the course outline, so I will have an idea what time I will have to go because I am hoping my classes will transfer and I will not need but a few. I know the times she told me is 5:30-10:30 Monday thru Thursday and 8-1 on Saturdays...

wasted-enough-time...just let me know if you find the course outline from last year. I would really appreciate that!

Can anyone tell me about the Lpn program in Raleigh at Ecpi? It is a good program. Is it worth looking into are do I need to go to a community college that justs offer it. Currently I'm enrolled at Wake Tech, I just have to get finacial aide.

The program has a good reputation but is expensive, I believe the cost is up to $23K or thereabouts for the 1 year LPN program. I know several people who attended and they are very satisfied with the education they received.

Are you currently in the ASN program at Wake Tech or doing pre-reqs? It's my understanding that Wake Tech nursing program is difficult to get into on the first round but at least you would have your ASN when you are done. There are still places that hire LPNs outside of LTCs but those opportunities are getting fewer and further in between. If you are in no hurry, then finishing up the pre-reqs and getting on the waitlist for your ASN at a community college for a fraction of the cost of ECPI seems better, IMHO. But if you have time/financial limitations and need to get done, you could always get the LPN in 1 year and then hopefully work for an employer who will help you bridge to the ASN or BSN. Another option is the diploma program -- Watts School of Nursing in Durham is about the same price at ECPI but you walk away with your nursing diploma, an AAS Degree in Health Science and the opportunity for tuition reimbursement through the Duke system. I will be attending Watts but did look briefly at ECPI when I thought finances were going to be an issue. The 2-3 year waitlists at Wake Tech and Durham Tech were just not an option for me.

At the very least, do a search on allnurses on "ECPI" and "Wake Tech" and you'll find some old threads that have a lot of info on the differences in the two programs.

Good luck! Hope this helps.

I would have started my pre-reqs in January but have money issues. I was looking into Watts and Mercy School of Nursing In Charlotte. How easy was it to get into Watts and what are the class times? Currently I live and Clayton and wouldn't want to drive everyday.
