ECPI versus Wake Tech, DTCC, Wilson, or Barton

U.S.A. North Carolina

Hi. Im looking for anyone who will be attending ECPI/Medical careers i nstitute starting Aug 2nd in Virginia Beach.I need info about Lpn/Rn program.:)

Hi Monique. I am enrolled in the August LPN class at MCI in VA Beach. It starts on Aug 1st.

The cost for the school is $19 thousand. You take an entrance exam and if you pass, your in. I bombed out on the math portion so I have to take a math class there next month so that I wont be behind in pharm.

As far as the RN class goes, I'm not really sure when it starts but I believe there is a class in Aug. They have just started the program and from what they told me the students who are in it now that were not already LPN's are really having it rough. They told me that they have not had anyone go to boards yet so who knows what the pass rate will be.

The pass rate for the LPN program is 95%.

I'd be happy to give you more info if you have any specific questions.

Wow, only 10k, thats good for you. I visit ECPI in Charlotte from New York because I'm relocating, however I was going to owe at least 18k. I only made $3,500 last year so I thought I should have alot of the tutition cover. I thought after 1yr thats two much money to owe. So I decided to enter a program here in NYC. But I'm glad things are working out for you.

I'm new here...

Good luck with your application to ECPI...that school was my backup plan if the RN program I applied to fell through, but I was fortunate enough to get into my first choice! However, I know a couple of people who are currently attending ECPI and like the LPN program a lot, and feel it's worth the price.

Sorry to say I don't know of any schools out your way that don't have a waiting list. But good luck with your application and welcome to allnurses!

I will be graduating from the LPN program at the Raleigh ECPI this June. While there are some things that need tweaking, they are looking into those things and rectifiying it. But, for all the whining that I and my classmates do, we are grateful to have gotten into this program and on the way to getting our licenses. I was on my way to sitting on a waiting list for the next few years, and at 36 I felt I didn't have any more patience. This program has opened up doors for me, that I only dreamed about. Granted, as an LPN I won't be running trauma's that I truly want to do, but I'm much closer to it than I would have been sitting on my bum for the next few years. For the most part, all the instructors truly care about their students. There is one in particular, that during our first term taught us A&P, and was known to stay until ten pm to help us grasp concepts and help build up critical thinking when answering questions. In a lot of cc programs there is such a vast amount of students, that its easy to slip through the cracks. NOt here. If you fail out, then its definately not because of the staff, it's probably something you have to turn inwards.

Now I know I'm sounding like the recruitment poster for the school. I have my issues with a teacher:gandalf: , but that happens in any program. All in all..it was a good way to be able to bypass the waiting lists and get into LPN to RN transition and to earn some good money while doing it.

Good Luck in whatever you choose:monkeydance:

Hi Anna,

I saw your post about Wilson Tech. I actually just finished their RN Program today and will Graduate on the 19th. I live in Johnston Co., so I wanted to go to either Wake Tech or JCC because they were close. Wake has people lined up around the block to get in and it's really hard to get anyone to talk to you in Nursing Admin. - and JCC wouldn't accept any classes I'd taken more than 5 years ago (really didn't want to take them over), so that was out.

I got disgusted, started looking for other schools in the area and even though Wilson's an hour from my house, I actually got to talk to one of the Instructors about the program, she was very helpful. When I applied in 04 - there were about 450 applicants (only 40 slots). I was originally put on their alternate list and just never gave up hope of getting in. For various reasons (people not getting paper work in on time, not getting their physicals, cpr cert., deciding on other schools, etc.), slots started opening up and a month before school started - I was given one of the 40 slots. We've lost 1/2 of our original classmates which was very sad.

I didn't realize they had an "alternate" - alternate list, but maybe things have changed in the last couple of years. One of my friends who was in our RN Class and didn't make it - is graduating this summer from the LPN Program and said getting into that was much easier than the RN Program. I think that with as many people applying for these programs at every school, it's sort of the luck of the draw getting in.

The worst part about it has been the really long commute each day, leaving really early, coming home late to take care of 3 children (my husband was always leaving for work when I was getting home - never saw each other), studying all night, etc. (it got old really fast), but looking back it was all worth it. I admire you for working at Special Care - we did a month of clinicals there and as much as I loved working with the patients, it was very sad knowing that most of them would spend the rest of their lives there. We also did a month at Cherry - also very sad - takes someone very special to work at either place.

I wish you all the best with school. If you have any questions or need some help, feel free to e-mail me. Take Care, Sue

I live in Rocky Mount and attend Barton in Wilson, you can get into Barton with as low as GPA 2.9, depending on the pool that year. Very expensive school, but really small and intimate setting. Highly competitive and u must have more than 79 to progress, people drop out of those classess like flies. I don't think it's hard to get into the program but extremely easy to drop out

I just graduated from the ADN program in Wilson as well. I got in on my first try, but I had all of my prerequisites taken and did well in those. That's how they calculate it. They start with the highest scores on the TEAS and then you get points for each class you already have towards the program which are based on what grade you earned in those classes. I also just took my NCLEX on the 7th and obviously passed because the NCBON issued me a license on June 9th! I have heard many compliaints about those wanting to get in at Wilson. Sorry I can't really offer any further explanation than their policy and steps of choosing which applicants get in.

I saw your reply about Johnston community college not accept any classes older than 5 years for transferring. Were the classes biology or science related? I just called them, and they told me they do transfer them, regardless of how many years it's been. I hope they didn't give me false inf., b/c my courses are more than 10 years older. I think they might not be transfering Anatomy&physiology, psychlogy, (mostly science courses). I was thinking about applying there, but after seeing this i'm curious. What courses had you taken, that your wanted trasferred? thanks

I just found everyones postings on ECPI and found that the information is interesting. I am considering starting the LPN program at the ECPI in Raleigh in November during the evenings. I was wondering if anyone had any information or input on the TEAS (placement) test that they require for the nursing program? Also I didn't realize that it cost so much because they will not tell you that information until you go in to meet with them and I haven't had a chance to do that yet, I have just been communicating through emails. Does anyone know how the classes/schedules are? I asked and they will not tell me yet. I have all prereq. for a community college and only need the three nursing classes but I want to go ahead and get it over rather than having to be on a waiting list. Has anyone had any luck with all classes transferring over to ECPI? Any information that can be given to me would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on your area, my school takes some LPN's in Spring of the first year but it depends on available seats. Only about 75% make it to RN. Unfortunately the LPN is being phased out in the major med centers so there are not as many jobs anymore.
