I will be curious to see how this plays out in developing "quarantine rules"...do we as a nation, go state by state? do we follow the lead of the CDC? what will this mean if in fact she tests positive for Ebola?

What I'm reading lately about Kaci is that she's making some 'noise' that some may find incendiary. I hope for her sake that she maintain the high road. There are some crazy people out there. I would hope that some fruitcake doesn't firebomb or takes target practice at her.

I'm sure there's a 'feeding frenzy' outside her home = papparazzi (sp?) and gen'l public.

The earlier nurses have set good PR examples thatspoke well. I hope it continues.

JMHO

It worries me as well, that someone may take this into their own hands and it's not just Kaci, it's nurses and healthcare workers everywhere that many people in the general public are afraid to be around. Fear spreads faster than any disease and when people are afraid, well, we all know that there's no telling what they might do. Praying that Kaci and all of us stay safe!

Overall, that's a good article, but they might want to update it and NOT use Craig Spencer as an example to follow, since even after he got sick he lied about his activities, including being out and about after he started feeling ill.

Hardly surprising, the crud published in the sensationalist tabloid turned out to be untrue.

Dr. Spencer didn’t lie.

"Asked about the report, Health Department spokeswoman Veronica Lewin said: "Dr. Spencer cooperated fully with the Health Department to establish a timeline of his movements in the Days following his return to New York from Guinea, providing his MetroCard, credit cards and cellphone.""

Here's why states don't trust voluntary Ebola quarantines

(Considering the title of the article I linked, is "New York Health Dept disputes report Ebola doc lied" the link did turn out rather strange...)

(Not that I'm sure that the actual article heading is any better. "Ebola doc". Seriously? )

You know what...if you're going to volunteer to go to a country that has the deadliest virus on the planet; you should absolutely be quarantined when you get back for 21 days. I would expect that the volunteers would do this willingly and I'm shocked about the response of boo hoo, not me for Christ's sake...how dare you take 21 days of my life to ensure that this virus does not spread!:banghead:

This is deadly and people are crying over 21 days. Don't people get it yet, it's unpredictable and mutating as we speak. Take no chances. I don't know what's happened to people, but it's scary IMO. Symptoms or not, they should be quarantined! It's called common sense.

By your comments we should require the 21 day isolation of every single health professional who came into contact with each ebola patient from admission to discharge or death right here in the USA. Isolating someone unnecessarily because of an unfounded fear is not common sense, it is hysteria.

^^^ absolutely this. Isn't it ironic that the many of the same people pushing for quarantine are also vaccine refusers.

Many also support politicians who seek to dramatically decrease funding to NIH and CDC and shut down the government in attempts to deny health insurance reform designed to allow millions of citizens access to insurance and therefore good health care.

And let's not forget we are still without a surgeon general at this point. SMH.

I believe she is being selfish and making a big deal for no reason! Yes, I can see how cabin fever could get annoying but, those are the rules and as a responsible nurse you should set a good example for other nurses/people. If you go over there willingly exposing yourself to this illness then you should be quarantined for 21 days when you get home; end of story. More now then ever, our focus as healthcare workers is "prevention is the key". This nurse needs to get over her little pity party and deal with it. It's all part of being a nurse; taking care of people! I do commend her for being brave enough to travel to Africa to help these unfortunate people who don't have what we have to get better, but if you go then accept your quarantine duty and be done with it.

Yeah, that is Sean Hannity's take on it...she is selfish. Because you know selfish people ALWAYS drop their personal and professional lives and run off to 3rd world countries to care for the sick and dying.

Isn't it easy for people to just casually suggest that she should roll over, give up her rights, and comply like a good little girl because the ignorant people are afraid. Characterizing her response to being held against her will in isolation for NO GOOD REASON as a "pity party" is pretty reflective of a particular type of ignorant and callous mind set on the part of the folks stating it.

IMHO, she strikes me as a know it all-without regard for others. Which I find unsettling given her role as a nurse. And I think THAT is what has struck a chord with so many. Her tone.

I know for a fact I would not be threatening to sue.

Edited that quote. I just pulled out the pieces I wanted to address, I don't think the comments I am quoting are out of context or impact my post.

So far as acting like a "know it all," Ms. Hickox has a MPH from the single best public health program in the US, and certainly one of the top 10 in the world. She does, point of fact, know a great deal more than any of the media or lay public; she knows more than her nursing peers, and more than physicians that do not have a MPH. In addition to be a Registered Nurse, she is a highly qualified epidemiologist. She should babble like the idiot from TX that got herself a few days of publicity by looking like a complete fool and humiliating our profession on 60 minutes? Would she be less threatening if she pretended not to be as knowledgable as she is? Would you say this if Kaci were "Keith?"

...food for thought.

As to the lawsuit, you bet I'd sue. And if I lost I'd appeal all the way to the Circuit or Supreme court. I cannot think of any better way to direct my money, frankly.

Are you referencing the nurse that said she was scared?

Which nurse on 60 Minutes are you referring to?
