Although I feel frivolous lawsuits are a waste of time and resources and health information is available to the public about eating a proper diet I feel there are occassions where restaurants should be held accountable e.g A fast food establishment claims their fries are perfect vegeterian fare despite frying them in beef tallow.

Measures known as "cheeseburger bills" bar people from seeking damages in court from food companies for weight gain and associated medical conditions, including heart disease and diabetes.
What I am about is encouraging debate about the subject of obesity and diet. It is important for everyone to discuss and to express our feelings about this subject because of the impact it has on our health system. It worries me how our health system will be crippled by this situation and I feel we need to take action now and that begins be sitting at the table and talking it out. Health professionals are in the frontlines fighting this epidemic and their views and perspectives are vital in order to formulate solutions to solve this predicament.
You are welcome to decline but I will always leave a seat for you a the table. That goes for everyone here.
I think the objection is to the hit-and-run style of your posts - let's hear *your* thoughts. Some ideas on how to alleviate the situation might be helpful, rather than a constant barrage on the overweight. Just a suggestion.
I believe you when you say you are concerned about the major impact of this problem on health and health care. Let's stop asking questions and start offering answers.
to answer your question, if a vegetarian chili has bacon in it, i would think you would be able to taste it immediately.
after the 1st couple of bites, then don't eat it if you're worried about calories.
then unless you're eating this bacon-laden chili 3x/day for days on end, it is unlikely that will be the cause of one's obesity.
why is it that an obese person would need someone/something to blame, especially citing a cause that is totally far-fetched?
anyone that needs to make a major lifestyle dieting change, should implement such changes at home, where they're in control.
dietermanifesto----comments?
DIETERMANIFESTOsince this is the 3rd or 4th thread you've started, all focused on the biases of obesity, would you care to participate in the thread?
rather than us debating, i for one, would love to hear some direct feedback from YOU.
what are your feelings on obese people filing lawsuits against mcdonalds or any other eatery?
leslie
I believe my first post on this thread explained my position but I will more than happy to elaborate.
Ever eaten a pint of ice cream for dinner? I have many a time. Ever eaten a whole Pizzeria Uno's pie? I have and have paid the consequences for my actions.
But I made that decision and took that action. You did not put a gun to my head and told me to eat those things. Ronald Macdonald did not put a gun to my head when I ate twenty chicken mcnuggets, countless big macs, cheeseburgers and fries. So I believe that we are all responsible for our own actions.
However...
IF a fast food establishment claims their food is the most nutritious or healthy and it is obviously not the case and people are eating their under that false pretense, than that is an entirely different situation.
I don't post as often as I want to since I am at work most of the time.
Ok then the solution is very simple. You cook your own stinking food. And, while you are at it, carefully select your own groceries, sticking to the "fresh" aisles, if you must. Go to certified organic shops, whatever it takes to meet your own standards for eating well. I mean, sheesh, it's so simple, it's beyond my comprehension why anyone thinks there is a debate!
As I said before, using false advertising to fool people is not the same thing as people eating and behaving like piggish gluttons. The people suing are NOT using healthy behaviors and getting stung for them. And, behaviors are under our control, last I checked!!!! We are such a nation of "victims", whine, whine moan, moan..........I am beyond sick of it all.
Well, went for a walk outside this evening, and stumbled on the sidewalk, now sould i sue the company that poured the sidewalk, the city, or the tennis shoes manufacturer? lol
now all you need to do is go to the doctor's to get your 'injury' evaluated.
then in a month or so, you can sue him for failing to dx your tonsillitis.
$$$$millions of dollars, here i come.
