Although I feel frivolous lawsuits are a waste of time and resources and health information is available to the public about eating a proper diet I feel there are occassions where restaurants should be held accountable e.g A fast food establishment claims their fries are perfect vegeterian fare despite frying them in beef tallow.

Measures known as "cheeseburger bills" bar people from seeking damages in court from food companies for weight gain and associated medical conditions, including heart disease and diabetes.

i don't know ratched...mixed feelings about tobacco.

i've been smoking over 30 years now.

even when i started on my dad's camels, i believe there were warnings on it.

and even without warnings, why would anyone ever think that smoking wouldn't eventually affect them?

since this is the 3rd or 4th thread you've started, all focused on the biases of obesity, would you care to participate in the thread?

rather than us debating, i for one, would love to hear some direct feedback from YOU.

what are your feelings on obese people filing lawsuits against mcdonalds or any other eatery?

I was wondering the same thing......seems there was another poster (at least by another name) doing this in the past....

and with each thread regarding some disservice surrounding obesity, dietermanifesto always takes a poll....

yes, call me paranoid but since this person refuses to share any insight with us i feel that anything we say can and will be held against us.

why the polls???????

My 12 year old son was talking about the McDonald's lawsuits and how stupid they are. Apparently, McD's is now considering or has discontinued super sizing. In his wisdom, my son surmised, "what difference will that make? People can still just order more food". If a 12 year old is able to understand that people can't and shouldn't be protected from themselves, what is wrong with all these suit happy people?

Don't forget about what happened with Healthy Choice frozen foods - what was it, about 8 years ago? They were making false claims about their products. When some of their meals were analyzed, they contained more than twice the number of calories and up to 5x the number of fat grams that were indicated in the Nutrition Information on the box. When companies lie to consumers to try to make a quick buck - they should get their pants sued off!

I do agree, though, that people who don't know/care/take responsibility for the fact that eating a quarter pounder with cheese, fries, and a milkshake every day will make you fat - especially if you never get off your butt - should not be allowed to sue McDonalds for offering the food. It's pretty common sense that foods fried in grease can make you fat and clog your arteries. Just think about what happens if you pour grease down a drain...

One person out of the forty-one that have voted are in favor of holding restaurants liable for the eating habits of their patrons. I wonder whoever that could be.

What's next? Lawsuits against 7-11 for selling hotdogs and slurpees? And after that, are we going to go after the supermarkets that offer us such bounty from which to choose?

Yes, people need to take responsibility for their actions. Otherwise, we could sue just about everyone for every single poor decision we make in our lives.

I can't even agree on your example about the vegetarian thing. If you want to know exactly what you are eating and absolutely refuse to have it "tainted" with something, then you could cook the food yourself.

How about this scenario? You buy vegeterian chili at a fast food establishment that guaruntees that it has no meat but meanwhile it is chock full of bacon.
