I have finally gotten my clinical assignment. I have clinicals on Monday's from 6am to 12 noon. That means I have to wake up around 4am :stone (to review patient's info and to get ready). I'll leave around 5 to get to the hospital (30 min drive) on time. This is crazy!!! Does anyone else have experience with early morning clinicals???
You know, the more people I have talked with about this actually say that having early morning clinicals is better. It seems that it's better because you have the whole afternoon to study or to do other things you really want to do. Unlike evening clinicals when you wake up at about noon and don't get through until 8pm. Since I've been thinking about it, it really doesn't take that long to wake up in the first place. After all, when you're up you're up. I'll be starting soon and I am really looking forward to it. I hope that everyone's clinicals go well. I'm sure there's positives to both morning and evening. So whichever one you have...Good Luck!!!
I'm glad I'm in the early morning clinicals also. The evening ones at my school start at 3pm, and last until 11 pm - an 8 hour shift, same as ours. No way with 4 kids I'd be able to get up at 5:45am after driving over an hour home to put 3 kids on the bus, then another on the bus at 8am, then go back to sleep until 1pm, when I'd have to get up and get ready.
I was glad to hear that clinical's will be more often next semester, instead of having lab. I know lab is necessary, but I don't like it for some reason. The instructor is nice and helpful, but it's just..........blah. Plus I figure if I spend 2 days a week at clinical, I'll feel much less apprehensive than I do now the day before our one day. I'm up worrying all night about getting a pt. that HATES me or students or is difficult. I know I'll eventually get them, but as a "beginner", I don't want to be thrown into the lion's den. Seriously, in the frame of mind I'm in now, and how exhausted I am from my commute and trying to still do all the things I normally did as a SAHM, I'd walk out of the hospital and never look back.
I even decided today that if my mind and body can't handle nursing school, I'm going to change majors to Sports Management. I miss managing a sports team this fall. I'm doing a 1/2-a$$ed job of it right now for my son's fall baseball team, and they understand the 1/2-effort, but I think it would be a great career too! Can you tell my brain is fried - and after only 2 weeks???

Our clinical was 1400-2300. I'd rather have had the early morning deal.
