Duke 2014 Nurse Residency Program

Published

Hello everyone,

I decided to start a thread for the Duke University Hospital residency program.

I'm also looking for some advice as well. I'm not 100% sure of the application process, (maybe I'm thinking about other program I've applied to) but I remember being able select our 1st and 2nd choice. I'm pretty sure if this is the case that I selected pediatrics.

Well I just received an email form Duke to interview for the Clinical Transport Team. I'm thrilled to have gotten an interview, but does this mean my application was never forwarded to my choices?

Is anyone else in the same boat?

Specializes in Neuro, critical care.

I had an interview for Neuro ICU on Monday (4/14) at Duke followed by the shadowing. I thought it was very interesting as I never done shadowing as part of the interview. But it was really cool to meet the nurses and see the unit. Afterwords the manager told me she will let me know in two weeks about the job, and then today (4/16) i got called by the recruiter offering me the job for neuro ICU (so either they really need help, or I did really good on the interview haha). But Durham is definitely not ghetto (just avoid the East Durham), lots of nice houses and apartments around the Duke campus and downtown. I'll be moving from Ohio, anyone here that got a job with Duke pick a day for orientation?

Well I heard today that I'm not being extended an offer for the NICU. :( Disappointing, but I'm very thankful to have the offer in New Mexico to go with. Good luck to everyone who got offers from Duke, I hope it's a great experience for you!!

Hey everyone!

I found a great apartment complex in Raleigh in the Brier Creek area. I love it there! Everything is brand new and super nice! It is only 15 minutes away from Duke so it isnt bad at all. I hear Durham is nice too but I searched out both areas and decided that I wanted to live in Raleigh. If you want to stay in Durham I recommend looking around Southpoint. I liked that area too. It is next to a HUGE mall so that is always a plus. Well for me anyways. :inlove:

Nglover, I scheduled my orientation date for 5/19. How about you? Im excited! Good luck to everyone on their apartment/house hunting! :)

Hi all from Boston! I have an interview coming up next Monday for the Cardiothoracic Surgical ICU! It's actually my first nursing interview so I'm nervous! Any advice? I've researched the values, mission, etc to try to prepare, but is there anything all of you suggest? Thanks!!

Hi! Sorry to jump on your thread. I haven't heard anything yet other than my application status still says "Under Recruitment Review".. Does anyone know when they will be done making decisions? Or what that status will change to if I'm not being selected for an interview? Thanks!

DjgRN- I just accepted a position in the CT surgical ICU. My advice is just be yourself and be able to communicate why you want to work there and why you would be a good fit. Everyone on the unit is so nice and welcoming. The shadow was my favorite part. It's an awesome facility, you will love it!

Congrats on accepting the position, that is so exciting!! Thanks for the advice, I hope it goes well!

The other day I chatted with a recruiter who told me that the nurse grad apps are active for 90 days so on May 25 when they post new positions, active new grad apps will be in the pool for those positions.

So if we applied back in March for the first round, our application is still good and we won't need to apply again?

Correct if you applied in March and have not received a "rejection" email you are still being considered. I applied the first of march and got an email about a week ago that my application was forwarded to the hiring manager. Praying for an interview!!!

They had over 1,000 applicants per the recruiter I talked to. Also, has anyone interviewed for cardio thoracic step down or pediatrics (oncology or med surg)

Well I applied, interviewed and didn't get the position. So I wonder if I can reapply or not for a different unit.
