Duke 2014 Nurse Residency Program

Published

Hello everyone,

I decided to start a thread for the Duke University Hospital residency program.

I'm also looking for some advice as well. I'm not 100% sure of the application process, (maybe I'm thinking about other program I've applied to) but I remember being able select our 1st and 2nd choice. I'm pretty sure if this is the case that I selected pediatrics.

Well I just received an email form Duke to interview for the Clinical Transport Team. I'm thrilled to have gotten an interview, but does this mean my application was never forwarded to my choices?

Is anyone else in the same boat?

So I was wondering how those of you who already interviewed sent thank you notes afterward? Did you give them in person or did you send them to the hospital's address and just designate which unit you wanted it sent to? This is my first real hospital interview, so I'm not entirely sure how this all works... Thanks in advance!!

I got business cards from the 2 managers that interviewed me and just sent my thank you notes through email. That way they get it right away, and I know it won't be mishandled or lost and they never get it. But, I'm sure a real letter would work just fine too, if that's the way you want to go. Everyone has their own way of doing things. :)

So I just got an email saying that I will not be extended an offer. I'm really surprised since I was told last Thursday that it will take weeks. I really hope it's not because I bombed the interview at some point! =/

Guess I have to keep applying elsewhere...

Hey, the same thing happened to me -- The way I see it, this interview was a huge learning experience for us and we must have stood out in one way or another to have landed an interview! :) We were already qualified to be called in, I suppose it was just a matter of fit.. It really does suck, but we have gained 20/20 hindsight as a result :)

Don't worry Bos12, I'm in the same boat. I'm really disappointed, but it was a great experience nonetheless.

Thanks! It was an great opportunity that we all enjoyed. Still sucks, but it wasn't for nothing.

I wish you both the best of luck with your job hunt! Hopefully we'll all get job offers soon!!!

I'm so sorry to those of you who weren't selected this time. :( I know exactly how awful it feels, but you are right that it is a learning opportunity. Keep trying though, the right opportunity will come your way eventually! I still haven't heard anything from Duke...not sure if that's a good or bad thing. I emailed the recruiter last Friday and she said she didn't have a final decision on me yet.

Has anybody heard any good news yet? I would have thought the people they were saying yes to would have known first...but I haven't come across anyone who was offered a job yet.

I'm sorry to hear about those who weren't selected. Trust me, I have been on the job hunt for a few months and know how frustrating it can be. I am a true believer that everything works out like how it is supposed to in the long run. Like you all have said, it was a great learning experience, and you will kill your next interview!

I wanted to let you all know that calls are being made. I was extended an offer this past Tuesday! I deleted my other username but I posted on here earlier about the transport team. I actually figured I wasn't selected since it was over two weeks before I heard anything. They are just really swamped. Hopefully you guys will hear something soon! Good luck!! :)

Congratulations RN127!!! You earned a really fantastic accomplishment, and thank you so much for your kind words :)

I just got accepted into Duke's NICU Nurse Residency Program. I saw someone here that posted something about that and whoever else starts a new grad program wanted to see where you guys are looking for housing, in which city(I'm looking at Chapel hill and Raleigh, since I heard Durham is ghetto) and what you guys are planning to do. I'm coming from SoCal so this is going to be a drastic and anxiety-filled move for me. I love California :(

I'm from Southern California, too! How did it go? Did you get an offer?

Glad to see someone from Cali on here.

Via some friends, calls were made for the PICU and PCICU today! Good luck :)

Congrats lululemonx!!!! I interviewed for the NICU too, but didn't hear anything today. Sounds like a call should be coming soon either way. I did get an offer for a NICU job in New Mexico, so if Duke doesn't work out, I'll be ok with it. Whether it's Duke or the place in New Mexico, I'm having to move out of state too, and finding it overwhelming and anxiety filled as well, so I wish you good luck with your move! It will be worth it in the end. :)
