MCCG RN Residency 2014
Hi everyone! I was just called today to schedule a phone interview next week for MCCG's RN residency in the Neuro ICU, but for some reason I can't find ANY information about the residency itself, even on the hospital's website. Has anyone heard about this residency or has anyone actually been a part of it? I would really appreciate any information!

Interview at Duke
Thanks for the words of encouragement UCAFblue!! I'm in the same boat--I also graduated last year in June, so it's been almost a year and I haven't had any nursing experience. After applying to several hospitals in and out of state since graduation, Duke is the only one that has extended me an interview invitation so far. I learned so much though, and I know next time I'll be more confident because of this experience. Congratulations on your job offer in New Mexico!! :)

Interview at Duke
Found out this week that I didn't get the job. I'm very disappointed, because I absolutely loved the unit, and everyone I interacted with during my shadowing experience was so warm and inviting. I honestly felt at home! Didn't take them long to get back to me either-- I interviewed on a Friday and I got my rejection e-mail the next Tuesday. I tried to get some feedback from the manager, and I only received a generic response about how other candidates scored better than me in the interview process. Although I am really disappointed, it was a wonderful experience nonetheless. It was only my first hospital interview, so I still learned a lot! It's too bad my first interview had to be for my dream position at my dream hospital, but at least I have an idea of what I can work on for my next interview.

RN at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center- your experience/opinion?
Is anyone in OLOL's critical care residency? Although I just applied and haven't interviewed or anything, I'm just curious about this program and anyone's experience with it. Is the pt ratio the standard 1:2 or 1:1 for ICUs?

Don't worry Bos12, I'm in the same boat. I'm really disappointed, but it was a great experience nonetheless.

Duke 2014 Nurse Residency Program
Thanks Bos12!! I actually had a great time at the interview! I absolutely love the hospital and the whole dynamic of the unit I interviewed for. Everyone seems really supportive! I have a good feeling about it, but at the same time I feel I could've changed a couple things. :/ Good luck to everyone!! So I was wondering how those of you who already interviewed sent thank you notes afterward? Did you give them in person or did you send them to the hospital's address and just designate which unit you wanted it sent to? This is my first real hospital interview, so I'm not entirely sure how this all works... Thanks in advance!!

Bos12, I'm glad you had a great experience! But only 3 positions TOTAL?? Or just for the clinical transport team? My interview for the Neuro ICU is in a few hours... Eek!

Interview at Duke
Doindia I'm actually interviewing this week. I'll keep you posted. :) I didn't know there were so many applicants, that's crazy! I believe they have several cohorts per year though (unless I'm mistaken), so you should try applying to the next one! Archie123 I have my interview before the shadowing experience. What is the open house?

I'm glad your interview went well! Mine's coming up in the first week of April for the Neurosurgery ICU. My recruiter said the interview is behavioral-based and that I would be asked questions relating to the core values of Duke. Is that what your guys' interviews were like? I'm just trying to think of what kinds of questions they would ask about the core values. Any insight would be appreciated!!

Interview at Duke
Thanks! I sent in my initial application on 2/25, which I believe was the day it opened or the day after it opened. I got an e-mail to schedule an interview on 3/13. I'm not sure if this happens to everyone, but I was contacted to interview BEFORE I was even notified that my app was forwarded to the manager. So if I were you I wouldn't pay TOO much attention to the status. Unfortunately, it is just the waiting game. But don't give up hope! I also only had the option to choose 2 general fields, and not specific units. My first choice was critical care. I think they saw in my resume that I had preceptorships in the Neuro ICU and Surgical Stepdown and kind of combined them into Neurosurgery ICU. I don't know exactly what the requisition number means, but mine is 100022014. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Duke 2014 Nurse Residency Program
You can ask the recruiter to be 100% sure, but I heard from the "Duke Interview" allnurses thread (you guys should read it, I found it to be really helpful in terms of interview questions and the whole process) that you're supposed to show up wearing scrubs. Apparently you really don't have time to change clothes because someone takes you straight from the interview to the shadowing, or vice versa. Plus it might be a little awkward to have that person wait for you while you change in the bathroom... Anyway, good luck on your interview next week!! What unit are you interviewing for?

Duke 2014 Nurse Residency Program
@maomao429 I e-mailed HR for more information about the residency when I was first applying, and they told me it was 12 months long. I believe as long as you have your license by the start date you should be okay! I actually already have a CA license but I have no idea how long the process would be to get a license to practice in NC. It's a compact state, right? So I would be applying for a multistate license? Not sure how it all works.

Interview at Duke
Hello everyone! I found out today that I will be interviewing for a new grad position in Duke's Neurosurgery ICU (8 East)! Like many other people in this forum, I have a shadowing experience following the interview. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with interviewing for this unit. I can't seem to find any information about it on the Duke website, so I'm thinking it might be a new unit? Anyway, this is my first hospital interview, so any advice would be appreciated!

Duke 2014 Nurse Residency Program
Thank you, @Bos12, for starting this thread! When I applied, I was able to select 2 choices-- 1st was critical care, and 2nd was cardiology stepdown for me. That's odd you didn't get either of your choices... I didn't even know Clinical Transport Team was an option. Maybe try asking the recruiter about how she made the decision to place you there? I just received an e-mail today to interview for Duke Hospital's Neurosurgery ICU! My first hospital interview!! Apparently it's an interview followed by a 1-2 hour shadow/observation experience with a nurse. Is this how Duke conducts all its interviews, or just certain units? And does anyone have any experience with a shadowing interview like this?
