Duke ABSN Spring 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Hello everyone!

I thought I would start a thread for prospective Blue Devils. I would love to hear about each of your backgrounds, professional experience and/or where else you may have applied. Have any of you applied to Duke's ABSN before? This might be a great place to ask questions, share insights and tips for submitting a strong application!

Me: I live in Portland, Oregon. I graduated with a BA in Psychology in 2010. Since then I have worked in domestic violence shelters, mental health crisis centers and in outpatient addiction treatment. I quit my mental health case manager job to pursue nursing almost 2 years ago now! I have been volunteering at a Burn ICU in town. I applied to USFCA in Orange County (safety!) and Johns Hopkins for Fall '18, in which I have been waitlisted. I have an underwhelming undergraduate GPA and a 4.0 in prerequisites. In my applications I've done my best to highlight my professional experience and dedication to under served and under resourced populations. I also submitted a supplemental essay explaining poor undergraduate academic performance. I did notice however that Duke's application portal doesn't have a place to upload supplemental materials. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions about how I could get this essay in front of the admissions committee?

I can't wait to hear about you all! :)

I got in!!! congrats to everyone!!!!

I was just accepted!

I GOT IN!!!! How'd it go for everyone else?

Does anyone know when we find out about the Duke days?

Hi everyone,

Congrats to those who were admitted! Were the decision emailed to you? I just checked the status of my application and it stated that mine was withdrawn and I'm so confused since I submitted everything before the due date? Did anyone else have any issues like this?

An email was sent out to log into the applicant portal last week to check decisions. There was an option to "check decisions" which would display the final decision. You should call the school of nursing to find out why your app was withdrawn.

Which Duke Days is everyone going to that has been accepted!?

What are the Duke Days dates? I haven't received any info on that yet.

An e-mail was just sent out. Either July 13 or July 20

Im accepted and have the duke hub and everything and i didnt get an email about duke days yet!

I also received the email. I won't be able to make the trip down to NC then--I would however appreciate anyone willing to give their thoughts regarding the facilities, program, building, tour in general and etc. Thanks!

I called the school and they said that if you did not received an email about Duke Days yesterday to email Mr. Pereklita so you can get the information.

Just kidding, I have way too many emails and did not check the right one! I found it and I am going to Duke Days on July 20th!!! So excited to meet everyone!! When are people thinking is a good time to find housing?
