Duke ABSN Fall 2021

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone!

I read through posts from previous DUSON ABSN cycles while completing my application and they were very helpful, but I noticed there were no new posts for the current application cycle, so I thought I'd start one.

Just submitted my application and am super nervous!

Anyone else here apply? Let's be antsy together! ?

Thank you! I figured. Just wondering if there was any chance at all. It’s so nerve wrecking!

I know the feeling. I am awaiting another school's decision as well. It's on my mind daily.

We’re hybrid right now. Most of our classes are virtual. We have our labs and clinical rotations in person. However, a lot is up in the air with the vaccine. (We did have access to the vaccine as a cohort and it was optional.) I know they’ve floated the idea of us being more in-person in the fall so nothing is set in stone yet. I’m assuming at the minimum, we’ll continue to be hybrid.

I personally didn’t receive any financial aid. I wasn’t planning on Duke but fate intervened so I missed the deadline for financial paperwork. We haven’t really discussed finances as a cohort other than private student lending options. I do know that Duke does not provide 100% assistance. A majority of the people in my cohort have had to get a private loan. But Duke does have helpful repayment options if you agree to work for them for x amount of years after you graduate.

That's exciting!  Can you share any details about Duke repayment options?

Hey all!

Just wanted to send positive vibes & good luck to you all. I'm in the most recent cohort that just started a couple weeks ago. We had some great current students hop on our forum before we started and it was super helpful, so if you have any questions about pre-admissions or current COVID protocols, let me know! I'll answer the best I can.

Best wishes you all get in!

P.S. If you’re curious what Duke is ‘looking for’ I don’t think there is a solid answer. Our cohort is very diverse, from all over the country, and with varying previous health care experience (I had none)!

Can you share what your first semester is like?  Are the school of nursing staff and faculty supportive of the students?  What do you think of the program so far?  Clinicals?  Labs?

Commenting to receive notifications LOL but hello everyone!

I have been so anxious this entire application process...I have a low GPA but did well in my prereqs after college and everyday that goes by without a decision has been torture haha

Hi, everyone!  I'm anxiously awaiting my decision, but I had a question.  I was accepted to another program, and I have to put down my enrollment deposit by next week if I want to reserve my spot.  However, Duke is my first choice!  Is it okay to commit to the school that already accepted me but then rescind my enrollment if I end up getting into Duke?  Basically, I'm wondering whether this could create a problem (besides losing my enrollment deposit)...  I would greatly appreciate any thoughts!

You are not legally bound to enroll with the school you paid your deposit to.  I did the same.  I paid my deposit just in case I didn't get in to the other two schools I applied for.  I did get my second acceptance, but I declined on the deadline due to the total cost being way too much.  Which school were you accepted to?
