Hello! I figured it was time to start this thread now that the application deadline is nearly here. Let us commence the stress and commiseration!
I finally submitted my Duke ABSN application yesterday after being away from my computer for months while traveling. I feel excited and hopeful, but the reality is that I won't be able to attend without a significant scholarship. I love Duke's program and my partner lives outside of Durham (I'm currently near Tucson, AZ) so this could be the perfect fit.
Nursing will be a second career for me--I'm 34. I'm curious whether most of my fellow applicants are younger or around my age?
Good luck everyone!
If they don't let us defer and they make us reapply I'll be livid. I really hope that if it comes down to the school being shut for the Fall that they DO give us options instead of saying HEY here's your $500 please apply for next term. I didn't sacrifice almost 2 years of my life to reapply again considering I got into all my choices and have picked Duke. I wouldn't mind doing a half online half in-person format for the Fall if it meant we could do clinicals you know? I feel like Labs could be done with set groups of people I.e 10 max.
And @l8r_sam not sure if you're speaking on the fact the HEA is cancelled and you've paid your deposit or where you are even located. Joking...cool, I get it..this crap is hard as hell to swallow and incredibly depressing and I still have my job in the hospital but it comes with loads of risk.
I know all of us are sitting here on pins and needles, but I hope and pray that Duke does the right thing in the end with all of this....and other schools as well. I just loathe all of the uncertainty when I consider what all it took to get me here. I don't know if I'll get into schools again next year if we had to apply again...what about THAT money we lost. Trying not to deep spiral. Just wish people would actually listen about how important it is to social distance and stay home. I see people here in Orlando just out and about with whole families, on roads 24/7, its totally absurd.
Anyone else seeing this or feeling like this? If we do manage to start this Fall, I feel like we at least will have a bit of bonding. HaHa
From people who have already completed the program, I was told that a lot of the program is actually online, besides the clinicals, of course. I don’t think that things are going to affect classes that much, and even so, classes don’t start till August so they have plenty of time to make decisions that wouldn’t be the worst case scenario. I also don’t think Duke would leave the deposit deadline on the 30th (because many schools extended it) just to yank it from us later on. I have confidence the school of nursing is preparing for our arrival and that they have our best interest in wellness and nursing at heart.
Is anyone else in the fb group?
@lovelynurse1093 Can you post a link to the fb group?
Also, has everyone else started to gather their immunization records? If you can’t find proof of certain immunizations, you’ll have to start the series again, so best get on it! I was told that even if all the required series aren’t completed, you can still go forward under “partial compliance.” Fair warning that it will be hard to get into a doc’s office if you don’t already have a PCP but Minute Clinics and urgent care centers do titers and immunizations.

Yes please post the FB group link! I've got my immunization record and thankfully had a TB screening done plus other titer tests etc for the hospital I work for. I suppose I'll have to contact Occ Health to get a record on top of what I have. I don't know if your state has a lock-down, but I have one until mid April. I honestly have ZERO desire to step foot in a doctors office right now, but thank you for the reminder @seacandace. Feel free to PM or DM me but do you have the list of required immunizations?
All the info about immunizations is available through DukeHub! You should have received an email with your DukeHub student login info. Once you wend your way through that labyrinth, you can see a list of to-dos re: health, financial aid, etc. I've attached the form we must submit so you can see the list of required immunizations. ?

Hi,
Can you please tell me where you are getting your emails from? I've been accepted and feel as though I'm out of the loop when it comes to communication/emails. When & How did you get your DukeHub log in information? I have yet to receive anything.
Thank you! @seacandace

Are you being for real right now? I don't think Duke is worth being homeless for, just my opinion.
