Duke ABSN Fall 2020

Published

Hello! I figured it was time to start this thread now that the application deadline is nearly here. Let us commence the stress and commiseration!

I finally submitted my Duke ABSN application yesterday after being away from my computer for months while traveling. I feel excited and hopeful, but the reality is that I won't be able to attend without a significant scholarship. I love Duke's program and my partner lives outside of Durham (I'm currently near Tucson, AZ) so this could be the perfect fit.

Nursing will be a second career for me--I'm 34. I'm curious whether most of my fellow applicants are younger or around my age?

Good luck everyone!

Is it possible to get into Duke's ABSN for the Spring of 2021 with a 3.0 GPA from undergrad? Thx!

can you accept me the group? I messaged the admin but no answer

I can’t, unfortunately. Only the admins can. They took a while to accept me, too.

I got into all the programs that I applied to with a 3.1 GPA, all with scholarships including Duke and Johns Hopkins. It’s definitely possible.

I would definitely still apply! I had a 3.5 undergrad and took all my science prerequisites after undergrad and I think that GPA was in between a 3.0 and a 3.5. I can't remember but I think closer to 3.1. But I had a ton of hands on hospital patient care experience which I think really helped!

Specializes in Nursing Student.

@lovee.li The email is called "Activating your Duke NetID." If you can't find it, I'd suggest contacting Benjamin Pereklita/emailing DUSON. Good luck!

Hey guys! I just found out I have been accepted from the waitlist. I’m still waiting to hear back from financial aid, but I hope to accept my offer soon! I am looking forward to meeting you all!

CONGRATS! I found out that I was accepted also. Do you know when/how we find out about financial aid decisions? I know we have to accept or deny by the 15th and that doesn’t give much time to weight options! I’m going crazy trying to decide what I want to do!! Grateful to have the choices though!

Depends on long term plans. If you just want BSN the choose any program. If you want a crna / np / med doc then go top 20 schools for your BSN

@l8r_sam My hopes were to always be CRNA. Do you say top 20 school due to competitiveness of crna/np programs?
I’m just wondering cause I know UNCG has a CRNA program, but their BSN program is definitely not in top 20. Do you not think they would accept a former student that did really well in their BSN program into their CRNA program? (This is just an example I decided to use cause I’m in NC and familiar with the schools and their programs in this area.)

@Roger0105

yea definitely, top 20 just helps getting into programs not tied directly with where your attending.

Due date to submit HEA acceptance is Monday, April 6th. Email to Wendy. I emailed to Benjamin too.

Hi everyone! Student applying for Spring 2021 entrance here. I have a question about the personal statement application portion--did you guys use APA format? I don't see any requirements other than the font size and double spacing.

Thanks in advance! And good luck to everyone on their journey ? you guys rock!

I used freelance writing style. I can send you my essay as an example?

That would be helpful! I'm not familiar with freelance writing style. I used APA formatting. Thank you so much!

That’s really all I went by on my application. I used a common font in the size they specified and double spaced. Normal 1 inch margins and placed the statement question as the header like they asked. Didn’t use any other special formatting.
