Thread for the incoming 2019 Duke ABSN applicants so we can help each other out through the application process.

I would say no, that's really bad. Definitely not a selling point for them. Just because it's Columbia doesn't mean their program is top notch. It's not listed in the top 50 ABSN programs so they probably don't take accelerated nursing very seriously. A high NCLEX pass rate is a direct statistic to how well the school prepared students to be an RN.

It wouldn’t be listed as a top ABSN because they don’t have a ABSN program. Their option for a second degree in nursing is the Masters Direct Entry program where you graduate as an RN and there is an option to continue onto DNP if you’re interested in NP.

Actually, the Columbia program is an accelerated MSN. They mentioned it on their webpage http://www.nursing.columbia.edu/academics/academic-programs/masters-direct-entry-mde. It’s different from most of the other master’s entry into nursing programs in that one has to complete 71 credits of graduate school work within 14 months, where as the program at Johns Hopkins is as long as 2 years. One of the downsides is that you have to pay two years worth of tuition in one year ($112k+ in tuition).

Right, but point being, the other commenter said it’s not a top 50 ABSN program. But it could never be, not because it’s a bad program necessarily, but because it doesn’t award a BSN, if the list he or she is referring to is only for ABSN programs.

I know! It’s getting to me as well. I’m hoping they send it out sooner rather than later lol. I need to start making some decisions.
