Duke ABSN Fall 2011

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

Hi all!

I know its early and the application isn't due until December 1st, but I was wondering if there was anyone else out there applying to the Duke ABSN program to start in August of 2011! I've already read through some of the previous semesters' threads and it seems like a great outlet for discussion/ questions/ nerves!

Let me know :)

I was told that April 1st we find out the ranking and on April 5th we learn whether our spot was given acceptance. I am really worried about financial aid for Duke second rounders. I think I may just put my money down for Columbia and then see what Duke does.

Hi! I sent her an email asking if we would know our ranking by April 5th. She sent me an email that stated,

"No, we aren't releasing rankings until we make offers in the second round and then have a waitlist. We would provide waitlist rankings."

I also sent her a message asking if second rounders that were accepted could receive financial aid assistance such as scholarships. She told me,

"Yes, you are still eligible for the financial aid assistance."

I really hope that second rounders would get some assistance. Then again, it has me thinking that if the ones that were accepted won scholarships and decided to go to Duke, then there might not be any left for second rounders.

Congrats on getting accepted to Columbia.

Congrats on Columbia! That's awesome. If I were you I would definitely put $ down at Columbia. If Duke is your number one choice you can always go if you are offered admission but you still have Columbia as an option.

This is definitely the hardest part. I hate waiting!

Hi all -

I hope everyone here is doing well. Congrats to those who were accepted and I hope the second-rounders are weathering the wait for the next round of decisions. I appreciate reading this board even though I not applying to the ABSN. I am graduating from the BSN program in June from University of Washington and just submitted my application to Duke's DNP program (with a FNP specialty).

I have a question about the online application that maybe one of you could answer. When they receive your transcripts, where can you see that listed?

All the best to you all and maybe I will meet some of you next year at Duke. (Fingers crossed for all of us!)

Hi Queen Nurse Student! When they receive your transcripts, you should be able to login into the applyyourself website. The status of your applications as well as the transcripts are listed. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Has anyone heard anything from financial aid yet? I thought we'd hear my march 1st.

I haven't heard anything yet

I just called the financial aid office, and they said that all accepted absn students will get financial aid email packages by this Friday at the latest.

Go check your email, they are sending out financial aid

Hey everyone. Just wondering...for those of you who've received financial aid packages already, what are they looking like this year? I know I still have a month of waiting to find out my fate, but the cost of attendance is not out of mind. I appreciate any info :)

The financial aid award notice shows the loan eligibility for 1 year: Fall 2011-End of summer 2012. They show how much can be taken from federal unsubsidized, federal subsidized and private lenders. They also break down the loans into the 3 terms- Fall, Spring, Summer. The maximum taken out from fed. subsidized is 5,500, fed. unsubsidized is 7,000, and private 62,951 for the 1 year.

For 1 year the tuition is 48,585. They also approx. items for that year:

Housing Allowance: 8,640

Food Allowance: 5,880

Books: 1,260

Health Insurance: 1,986

Personal Expenses and transportation: 4,380

The total = 70,731

From what I understand the tuition and health insurance are set prices for this year, the rest being an approximation.

They have the maximum total financial aid that I can take out as 75,451 for the 1 year.

I called today and found out that they awarded 6 need-base scholarships. I am not sure about the essays. Of course, they said if someone who received the scholarship decides not to attend then it will be awarded to the next person eligible.

I hope this helps!!!!

OMG thank you so much for all of this. Although I have one more month of waiting it's a reality check to see these numbers. Scary.

Good luck to everyone whose waiting and congrats to those of you who were accepted on the first round! I hope we all get to meet in the fall!:)

No problem! I know if I was was still waiting, I would want to know this information also. It is definitely important in making the decision on where to attend. The numbers are scary and this is only for 12 months; there still the other fall semester which isn't include in this price. Thank goodness for the possiblity of tuition reimbursement!

Good luck to everyone still waiting! Hopefully you all will find out very soon! :)
