  1. to all who have been accepted and know youre going to duke, join the facebook group!!! its called duke absn fall 2011 :)
  2. thanks dorshee! should we start a facebook group? yes?
  3. I got in, but I am leaning towards the in-state school that accepted me that has a good program for much cheaper, so may be good news for you 2nd rounders. Good luck to all!
  4. i cant find it! do you know how to get to it?
  5. looks like VT was a popular place to pick from! did anyone else just graduate in may?
  6. Hey all, I got in too!!! I was so excited when I got my envelope, I was actually heading out the door to head to NC for my interview at duke tomorrow (I can't believe you guys didn't get interviews.... you sound more qualified than me). But the mail came and now I feel so much less pressured. Duke is prolly my first choice program but vcu is much more financially feasible. I had a 3.5 in business from va tech, all As in pre reqs, lots and lots of volunteer exp w special olympics and the sticu at vcu. Im also a certified cna. Im really pulling for you nolemercy, I really hope you get in!
  7. hey all, i applied to vcu too! i am getting rather nervous about the decision. any news on if they mailed the letters today for sure?
  8. So I'm not sure if any of you are in the same boat but... I just graduated from college in the spring and am currently bunking with the 'rents. I was fortunate enough to get my undergrad paid for through them and scholarships so I have never taken out a student loan. As of right now, I am a dependent to my parents. However, I am going to have to foot the entirety of my nursing education/ living expenses. When I answer the questions on my FASFA, they put me in a dependent status and with my parent's income, I won't qualify for any financial aide, even though they wont be paying for my education. Any suggestions? I emailed financial aide but they havent responded! Is anyone in the same boat? What are you doing?
  9. got an interview! im going the 4th, i figure the wait between the interview and the final decision will be shorter! anyone else going in feb. also just got my final grade for my last pre-req, an A in anatomy 2! what a good day! congrats to all.
  10. im minutes away from taking my anatomy 2 final and am so excited to finish this class and so excited/ nervous to find out about interviews. im betting we find out by wednesday!! i cant stop checking my email
  11. thanks for the news! now im even more anxious. i just graduated in may w my bachelors in business management from virginia tech tech, so dont worry angiela, im only 22 and a youngin too. and ktliz, its DEFINITELY worth it to get your bsn over an associates. not only do most hospitals now prefer to hire bsn nurses but if you ever want to go into a specialty/ get a masters degree you will need a bsn. the cost may be a little greater now, but your earning potential can be much greater. that being said i am definitely beginning to worry about student loans. i was lucky enough to get my undergrad paid for. has anyone begun to look into what loans are out there?
  12. aspire--- i am bls certified but it will only carry my through october 2011 so ill be taking the class again over the summer too. did you apply for fall entry? your post says spring but it may just be a typo. i applied to vcu, georgetown and george mason as well. im from virginia so in state tuition would be nice and georgetown has a program where you can get 80% of your tuition covered but i really want to go to duke. i just figure i will work 150% to be a star student if im accepted and maybe hope to get a job there to get the tuition repayment :) from everything ive researched it seems like the best school for me and it would be worth it. plus im dying to get out of va, ive lived in the same place my entire life (other than when in college).
  13. I JUST submitted my application! So excited. And to anyone who is waiting until the last minute too... yes the site had been very slow. If needed, you may have to log out and log back in a few times, I know I had to do that in order to upload my personal statement. Speaking of which... how long was everyones? Mine was almost 4 full pages single spaced, I hope that isn't too long, I just had a lot to say! Can't wait to hear about interviews, should be just a few weeks from what I've read. Good luck to all!
  14. Yes the status will say when the recommendations were started and when they were submitted. I would contact your recommenders!
  15. well i started this post but kind of forgot about it until now! i have a B.S. in business management with a final gpa of 3.5. I have almost finished my pre-reqs (almost done with A&P 2!) and have all As except a B in statistics (grrr business stats). i completed a CNA course through the red cross in october and take my state licensure exam tomorrow! so hopefully ill pass and then im going to try and get a cna job to make some money/ get experience until school starts. i have lots of volunteer experience from college and currently volunteer in the surgical trauma icu at a local hospital. im definitely not worrying about taking the gre. i was wondering if there are any other recent college grads applying? i graduated in may, decided in the middle of junior year that i wanted to do nursing but figured it was too late to change my major (plus my school didnt offer nursing). ill be 22, alllllmost 23 when i start if i get into duke and i feel like ill be one of the youngest. also wondering if there is anyone else that is thinking about being a crna in the future. i shadowed a few already and i LOVE it and love surgery/ the or. hope everyones applications are going well! i need to get working on it...
