  1. oaktown2- Yes, it has! I do not remember the exact numbers, but they did tell us during the interview. I think almost all of them had jobs after a month or so. The students started looking earlier for jobs this year also. Maybe someone else on here who attended Duke Days wrote down the exact information, but probably if you call they would be able to tell you. It definitely did get much better, and they also mentioned about the new building which was going to be opening around the time of this cohort's graduation.
  2. No problem! I know if I was was still waiting, I would want to know this information also. It is definitely important in making the decision on where to attend. The numbers are scary and this is only for 12 months; there still the other fall semester which isn't include in this price. Thank goodness for the possiblity of tuition reimbursement! Good luck to everyone still waiting! Hopefully you all will find out very soon! :)
  3. The financial aid award notice shows the loan eligibility for 1 year: Fall 2011-End of summer 2012. They show how much can be taken from federal unsubsidized, federal subsidized and private lenders. They also break down the loans into the 3 terms- Fall, Spring, Summer. The maximum taken out from fed. subsidized is 5,500, fed. unsubsidized is 7,000, and private 62,951 for the 1 year. For 1 year the tuition is 48,585. They also approx. items for that year: Housing Allowance: 8,640 Food Allowance: 5,880 Books: 1,260 Health Insurance: 1,986 Personal Expenses and transportation: 4,380 The total = 70,731 From what I understand the tuition and health insurance are set prices for this year, the rest being an approximation. They have the maximum total financial aid that I can take out as 75,451 for the 1 year. I called today and found out that they awarded 6 need-base scholarships. I am not sure about the essays. Of course, they said if someone who received the scholarship decides not to attend then it will be awarded to the next person eligible. I hope this helps!!!!
  4. Bananaducks- I'm at UPenn too! I work in a lab in the med school doing research.... Small world, huh?
  5. I got accepted, but I cannot believe how many are second rounders.... I know during Duke Days they said they were going to issue ~80-85 acceptances first round, but maybe it was less?? Good luck to everyone in the second round- I hope you all get what you want- and congrats to everyone who was accepted!
  6. Thanks Bananaducks!! That's great!!! Maybe now I can get some work done :)
  7. Well, that's good! I hope I wrote down the wrong dates then, or maybe it was for something else with financial aid... The sooner the better!! I am distracted from my work too, it's terrible!!!!
  8. I hope that we find out today b/c the anticipation is driving me nuts! I had went to the first information session and I had wrote down in my notes that the meeting would be on the 14th and we would not find out until the 16th or 17th. I thought that I also remember them saying that if we are accepted that our financial aid package would also be known then. Maybe they need another day to organize that still?? Did anyone hear or write down anything different??
  9. Hi Everyone! Sorry that I have not commented on anything. It seems like a lot of the questions have already been answered though. I also interviewed last Friday. I was soooo nervous! When I got there I could hardly eat the breakfast, but once I sat down and started talking to everyone I had calmed down and relaxed. My interview was also at the end of the day, and when that time came I was shaking again. I think my second interview went much better than the first since I was so nervous. The interviewers really do try to make you feel comfortable and they are extremely nice. In the interview they ask you the basic questions like, why nursing, why Duke, strengths, weaknesses.... basically your personal statement. I had things in my mind that I wanted to say or that I wish I did say, but when it came down to it my mind went blank. The only advice I have, besides to try to relax, is to be honest and be yourself. That is all they really want to see. I had wore a suit to the interview and I felt like it was a good choice. I had dressed it down by wearing flat shoes and a sleeveless shirt with a sweater cardigan under the jacket. I had arrived the morning before the interview and went to look at Duke's campus. When I was there the first thing I tried to find (after finding parking) was a map! The campus is huge and very spread out! By the chapel, there is a building called the Bryan University Center and in their university mechandise store they had a map!! The map was extremely helpful and it had the roads and the building names on it. It showed exactly where the school of nursing was located. Best of luck to everyone interviewing tomorrow!!!! It is a great experience and I'm sure you all will do amazing!!!
  10. Evaamber- Hahaha!! I think we'll be able to figure it out! I look forward to meeting you! I am so nervous about this interview it's terrible....
  11. Hi Everyone! I booked my hotel with priceline.com by bidding on 3 1/2 star hotel and it ended up being for te Millennium Hotel for $50/night. The regular price is supposedly $82/night. That was the best deal I could find. I thought I would just share it with everyone.
  12. I scheduled mine for the 21st. I was going to try to drive there from NJ, so I figured maybe the earlier the better with the weather.
  13. I just got the email too!!! Congrats VandyMeg! Good luck everyone!!!!
  14. KikiJ- Thanks for the information from the session! I didn't realize that no one was offered a job last year- that's scary. I find that surprising since these large university hospitals usually have such a high turnover rate, but I imagine the area is saturated with new grads. Hopefully the economy will be better by the time we would graduate. hlr9433- Congrats on getting your application submitted! That's great! Thanks for the information also. I agree with oaktown2 about doing clinicals in other countries, that would be an amazing opportunity! As far as the cost of tuition goes, I agree with oaktown2's statement in choosing a program that fits best. I really would like to work at a large university hospital especially in the beginning to gain experience. Many of those hospitals will offer tuition reimbursement even you did not obtain your degree there. Some will only pay a certain percentage of the total amount or so many $1,000s/yr. I doubt that the reimbursement would be as great or as quick as Duke's offer, but it is definitely something to consider and think about :)
  15. Hi Everyone! KikiJ- How was the information session? I really wanted to go, but the timing with my job wouldn't allow it. The photos of Duke's campus look beautiful. Was there anything/info that really caught your attention at the session? oaktown2- It's great that you're changing your career! How long have you been working in finance? My undergraduate degree is in biology and I my background was pre-med. After some personal experiences this year, I've decided that going to medical school and becoming a doctor isn't for me anymore. Currently, and over the past year, I've been working in research since I didn't have the opportunity while I was in undergrad. It's been an interesting experience.
