Hi EveryoneMy name is Denise, I start my nursing clincials in Sept. WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, I am 29 and have 2 kids Rachel is 5, Matthew is 2, I started my pre reqs back in 2001 so this has been a long road but I am finally starting clincials:0)
Here are my questions, I need to purchse a Drug guide and Medical dictionary. I have 3 choices for each, can anyone recommmend one over the others?
Drug guides
Davis Drug guide for nurses
Lippincott Drug Handbook
Saunder's Nursing Drug Handbook
Medical Dictionaries
Stedman's concise medical dictionary with audio CD
Taber's cyclopedic Medical dictionary
Mosby Medical Nursing and Allied Healthy Dictionary
Thanks for any and all advice
Well, I don't have any of them. But....I've heard Lippincott makes excellent books. For med. dictionary, I think I'd go with the one that has the CD for help with pronunciation if needed. Good luck!
I use the Davis drug guide. It's the one recommended to us by the college. Can't recommend it over the others except that it also comes in a PDA program as well whereas the others, I believe, do not. The PDA program gets regularly updated.
As for dictionary, I chose Mosby's simply because it comes as a pocket dictionary. Something I've learned is that bigger isn't better in nursing school. Consider that you may have to carry that dictionary to school or worse, to clinical. Save your hands from arthritis. Go for compact!
Welcome!
Did your school tell you which to purchase of all of them? I had purchased one of each last year before I was accepted to nursing school, and now have to purchase the titles they want.
I have a Springhouse Drug Guide, which came with a great CD (though I think all of them do now), but I have to get the Davis Drug Guide now. Same deal with the dictionary (but it did get good use during my Medical Terminology course).
WOW! You're starting already, Manna? Let us know how it goes! You must be nervousexcitedhappyscared! :)
Yes, I'm terribly excited... or should that be just terrified? :chuckle
My last day of work is Friday, then class begins next Wednesday with Informatics, Basic Nursing Skills and Concepts Utilized in Professional Nursing. No real clinicals begin until August. If anybody that hasn't started yet is curious what my schedule/syllabi look like, PM me and I'll send you a link where you can read all about it :chuckle
Wish me luck..... Thanks! :)
