Drexel Univ ACE Program

Published

Hey! I noticed that someone requested information on this program. I start Drexel's accfelerated BSN program in March and was just wondering how it is - if anyone has graduated from the program and has any info, opinions, suggestions... I'd love to hear about it! Feel free to write me a PM also! Thanks!

Hi. As for ACE advice..hmm. First and foremost, enjoy your summer! See your friends and loved ones, go on vacation and have a blast! Hopefully you don't have any prereq's left. First semester's not bad you do have a lot of time off but study hard for Health Asess and Principle's- what you learn there just builds on in the following semester's. I would have to say 2nd semester is the hardest- 3 clinicals and maternity and adult are hard - atleast for me they were. But, as for the first semester- take it day by day. Don't let the professors and others tell you "it's so hard"..blah blah. They'll also try and scare you in orientation. It's enough to make you reconsider it. But if you are committed to doing the reading and studying and can "settle" for some C's then you will be fine. It's totally doable- the faculty can be disorganized at times but you do learn a lot. Anyways, I'm off to the shore to enjoy my week off- till my last semester begins. Good luck! Silia

I just finished my first quarter. Yeah - don't believe all of the negative hype. It's very doable - just pace yourself and you'll be fine. In addition to trying to scare you, they'll tell you that there are no curves on the exams. What a lie!!! They curve and they throw out questions. Also - mentally prepare yourself for signing an attendance sheet every day for every class. If you miss three classes in a quarter (or something like that) you're out of the program. I found it very annoying since some of the classes are not worth going to because they just read powerpoint slides (that you already have) to you. Oh, and I second that about the disorganization. You'll do a lot of venting about that!

Everyone is making me feel sooooo much better about this program.

Oh My Goodness, 24,000 is alot of money. Does that cover living expenses? Or R U guys living home?

24,000 covers just tuition! Not even books or uniforms. I live in GA, so I will have to move to Philly. I am still trying to find donations!

What makes me upset is that the financial aide screwed up my chance of getting a Ga. resident's scholarship. They did not resent my paperwork back to me in time for the scholarship deadline. They claimed someone quit all of a sudden and had my paperwork. I called and emailed them for days but no reply until after the deadline had come.

Hey! Are there any ACE Drexel grads out there?? I'm in my last term and have some question's about the Standardized Patient Lab check out. Thanks!! Silia

Graduated Oct 2003-

What do you want to know?

Spend about 20 minutes doing your health history and about 20 minutes doing your assessment and 5 minutes to wrap it up. I taugh along the way. I still have my outline- let me know if you want it...

The actors will lead you- they will say things that make you say-HMMMM- and you need to ask the right questions...

I applied for fall 04 but the class was full and am now waiting to hear about March 05 start. Is anyone still waiting to hear if they are starting in March 05?

Hi Mandi,

I start in Sept. as well, I can't believe it's almost here. Where will you be living? Do you know anyone in the program? I'm moving to Philly from California in mid-Sept. and will be living in Center City. I know in another month, I'm going to start freaking out. Any good advice you heard from anyone?

Is anyone starting the ACE program in Fall 2004? I FINALLY got my acceptance. It took forever!

I live in New Jersey so I'm only a 30 minute commute. I do not know anyone in the program, and I've heard a lot of "stories" about the program. I'm really anxious to get started & find out what the next year will be like. I have met several people in my prereqs that are also starting in the fall. We're all freaking out. I just really want to know what our schedule will be like. Good luck with everything. I'm sure we'll be meeting soon:)

Hi to all the upcoming ACE & current ACE students! I am in the 4th quarter and cannot wait until I am done. About the tuition, it stinks, but there are lots of opportunities out there which will help pay back your loans. If you look at it as an investment, it isn't too bad. Some people pay more for cars and they wear out. LOL

They are rather disorganized and some instructors are better than others, like any school. They try scare tactics to imitate you, but I have found the most of my clinical instructors to be great. Prepare to work hard and you will be fine. Remember why you decided to change careers and hold on to that goal, that is what kept me going for the last many months.

I had a job offer for every place I interviewed and I already have a job lined up. So to all of you that are starting in September, relax, enjoy the rest of your summer! PM me if I can answer any of your questions.

Hi - I'm in the 2nd quarter and I can't wait until I'm done either!! I think the most important thing to do is take one day at a time and pace yourself. The program is VERY doable, although it won't feel that way at times. Feel free to PM me too if you have any questions.
