Hey! I noticed that someone requested information on this program. I start Drexel's accfelerated BSN program in March and was just wondering how it is - if anyone has graduated from the program and has any info, opinions, suggestions... I'd love to hear about it! Feel free to write me a PM also! Thanks!
WAY to Go!
I'm so exited for ya... I will be starting the program in the September I can't wait. Do you have some advice on how to prepare in terms of literature, what would be some helpful reading?
Regards,
Sherley
I heard a few days ago that they have too many people for the program starting this fall. I just sent an update for transcripts so I plan on speaking with the admissions office again to find out the truth...
Hi all4nurses-
Congrats! I have not received an acceptance from them yet...I am waiting to hear what they do not that they have too many applicants for this falls class. They said they will get a letter out to us in the next few weeks...
This school was my back up plan...I am glad I have a back up to the back up plan :chuckle
HANG in there! your Almost there. I'll be starting when you'r finishing. Any word of wisdom? Also are you doing or did you do an extership. Also do they try to help if your having touble or are they failing student left and right?
Kind Regards,
Sherley
Hello fellow ACE students. I am in the 3rd quarter ACE right now and graduate in September (god-willing). Don't let anyone scare you. It is totally possible and you do learn a lot. You do have to do most of the readings to pass the tests, especially for Adult Health. They try to make the tests NCLEX oriented but the problem is they don't teach that way. You'll see for yourselves. But, don't let anyone scare you, especially the professors. I personally do not study all weekend (and am getting good grades & clinical reviews) and have had time for fun but it is exhausting during the week! Let me know if you have any questions! Best of luck to you. :) :)
Hey Sherley,
I just wrote this long message and it didn't go through--uhhh!!
Words of "wisdom"
1. In preparation i'd say relax b/c you'll need it. The only book i recommend is some sort of inspirational book w/ quotes- everything else you'll get when you start.
2. When you start in Sept, your 1st semester will be the easiest b/c you only have 1 clinical starting mid-semester so, master your assessment skills b/c you'll need them your entire career and it comes back again your last semester when your tested again on it.
3. We lost more then 25% of our starting class but 1/2 of that wasn't b/c of failing- a lot of people dropped out for many reasons. The pace was too fast for many who wanted to go slower or wanted to work during school. Also, if your used to getting straight A's some people can't deal w/ not getting an A, which is very difficult to maintain in this program. There's many ways to skin a cat and I admire their courage to seek elsewhere but still continue w/ their goal. The professors will help you if you seek help- but still a 76.5 is failing- anything less then a 77 is a D. And if you get a D in one class you have to pretty much weight to rejoin the next ACE group.
4. No, I didn't do an externship nor plan to. My sanity is worth more- I'd rather have whatever free time I do have to run or see my boyfriend. Some people are still working on the weekends and I don't know how they do it.
5. Other students and staff will try to "scare" you don't let them- you've come this far and have a degree somewhere else so you can make it through the year.
My advice is to take it day by day and don't get frustrated if you can help it.
Sorry for the babbling!! Let me know if you have any other questions and good luck.
Ok, I really need to know the students opinions about the ACE program at Drexel. I keep reading all these terrifying things! I've already made major changes in my life for this program...#1. I just got engaged 2 months ago, and I just told him we need to halt our wedding plans until I'm done with school. #2. I just gave my job notice that I'm leaving on August 14th. #3. My fiancee booked a cruise from August 15th to the 23rd to Bermuda because he thinks that Drexel will consume my life come September. He's really supportive but at the same time worried. I am amazed at how much I have changed my life, and it is terrifying. I question myself once a day if I'm being stupid...I mean last year on May 14th, my graduation day from Rowan, I went to Camden County College and registered for Psych, and now I've completed A&PI, A&P II, Micro, Chemistry, and Stats. It's kind of overwhelming. It's finally real to me now:) And I'm FREAKING out!
Does any body know a total of how much money will be needed to complete the program. In other words are books, supplies and uniforms included in the $24,000?

Well, here's the bottom line:The bad news - you will hate it, not because it's impossibly hard but because it takes up so much of your time
The good news - it's only 11 months long and everyone else in your class will be venting along with you. Misery loves company!

Yes - they pass attendance sheets around TWICE in each class. The story is that the 3rd ACE class skipped too many gero classes - something like only 5 people would show up for them. I agree with you - in some of the classes the prof just stands there and reads powerpoint slides. Gee - I can read them too! In that case - I go to class, sign in, ignore the lecture and use the class time for study time. Very silly. Only ten months to go!
