It's gloomy and cold in the Northeast today. I'm about to start prereqs for nursing school and I can't wait for the day when I'm finally a nurse and can go (mostly) anywhere and have a job. (Today's CNN article aside) I just googled Key West +Nursing Jobs and found this posting:

I'll be done with school in December and I'm always dreaming of warmer weather from the sub zero Wisconsin weather we're currently having!

Shortage of nursing jobs and the difficulty for new grads really depends on the area. It is not difficult for new grads everywhere, it depends on the location. Where I live, new grads (both ADN and BSN) are able to find jobs realtively easily, and many have jobs lined up by the time they graduate.

I was born and raised in K.W. it is not difficult to get a job there just keep in mind the cost of living is very expensive and you will be working just to pay rent. The school system is way behind so if you want your kids to get a good education K.W. is not the place. Good Luck don't mean to step on anyones toes just giving you a couple of facts.

Love Key West. I want to retire there.

It's a great town. Retiring there (with plenty of $$$) is great. Trying to be a regular working person there is not. The lower islands are extremely expensive, which means a long commute from affordable housing to a job in Key West (my parents lived in the Keys for a number of years).

In Louisiana. Some areas in Louisiana do have mild difficulty in hiring (New Orleans area may take a while, but New Orleans has struggled since the hurricanes), but further up, especially around the Baton Rouge and Lafayette areas, grads are able to find jobs fairly easily.

The CNN article is real......just because the jobs are posted doesn't mean they are hiring new grads. First Year After Nursing Licensure there is no nursing shortage....Google Search Results for nursing shortage esme

While nursing remains a good profession the days of naming your job are gone...at least for now. The bad economy has affected all job markets. When there are 1000 applicants for 10 new grads positions.....it is a problem.
