It's gloomy and cold in the Northeast today. I'm about to start prereqs for nursing school and I can't wait for the day when I'm finally a nurse and can go (mostly) anywhere and have a job. (Today's CNN article aside) I just googled Key West +Nursing Jobs and found this posting:

Oh trust me I've already researched the housing prices and cost of living. If I keep on tract I can sell some property that I have now and buy down there. I fell in love with Key West. How long did you live there?
I never did -- my parents lived there for several years, and I used to visit for a few weeks at a time. They didn't live in Key West, they lived a few islands north (Cudjoe Key). I preferred the less developed and commercialized islands to Key West itself (but did enjoy the restaurants and music in the city).

I'm taking my mother there for her 60th birthday and I have a feeling she is going to accidentally miss the plane.
OP if you do get a job there keep me posted.

The CNN article is real......just because the jobs are posted doesn't mean they are hiring new grads. First Year After Nursing Licensure there is no nursing shortage....Google Search Results for nursing shortage esmeWhile nursing remains a good profession the days of naming your job are gone...at least for now. The bad economy has affected all job markets. When there are 1000 applicants for 10 new grads positions.....it is a problem.
Praemonitus praemunitus or forewarned is forearmed I wish you the best on your nursing journey.
I wasn't going by job listings. I was going by the multiple people I know that have graduated recently. One of my best friends just graduated her RN program in December, and had a job lined up prior to graduation, pending her NCLEX. I'm not denying there is a job shortage for nurses in certain area's. I'm just saying it's not in every area.
Just like I've seen posts from California about how it's impossible to get a job as a CNA there. I'm a CNA and in my area CNA jobs are not difficult to obtain. I landed a job in a hospital at the beginning of my fall semester last year, with zero healthcare experience, and my last place of employment was as a cashier at a grocery store. It wasn't an issue, and I was hired the same day as my interview on a busy medsurg unit.
As I said, I'm not denying there is difficulty in obtaining jobs for new grads in some area's. It's just not an issue for the entire country as a whole, it really does depend on your location.
