There's nothing left to be done. The supposed cure has become worse than the disease. Most of the people who died of Coronavirus would have died from the flu or their underlying disease state anyway. It's well past overdue to fully reopen America. Those that are still scared of Corona can build bunkers underground and stay there for as long as they like. They won't get $600 a week freebies from taxpayers like me to do so any longer.
What could the US have done differently?
Locked it down properly from the get go. The half assed and incomplete measures IMO did more harm than good.
NZ had four weeks in level four lock down, and have been at level 2 for almost 2 weeks and yes the enconomy is suffering, however when one looks at our statistics only death toll of 20, currently we've been free of new infections for around 8 days, 1 active case which I dont think is in hospital.
What we have now is lots of people going "we over reacted, it wasnt as bad as all that, bla blah, blah" its very easy to say that when as a country we squashed the curve
The reality is before we went into the four week lock down the numbers of infected were doubling every 1-2 days and statistical modeling showed that the death toll would have been in the thousands. It sucks for the families of the 20 people who died, however its easier to deal with than over 100,000 and making almost a third of the total death toll from covid19
One of our ex primeministers nailed it when she said "economies recover, dead people dont"

Too bad the American leadership was so pathetic...

This is not true.
Take a gander at: 87,000 Missing Deaths:
racking the True Toll of the Coronavirus Outbreak
You are correct for two countries and incorrect for the other 25 countries . These graphs take into account deaths for all reasons, including seasonal flu.
South Africa and Israel show “normal,” (expected) deaths. Ecuador shows 84% above normal; Spain 72% above normal and the US shows 23% above normal.
See https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/04/21/world/coronavirus-missing-deaths.html
“Excess mortality” is “is a term used in epidemiology and public health that refers to the number of deaths above and beyond what we would have expected to see under ‘normal’ conditions.”

A group of Dr’s got together voicing concerns regarding not co-vid but the collateral concerns of lockdown.

What should US have done differently?
Also, do the Dr’s you work with voice the same concerns?
