Don't put your email address in a thread!

I realize that many people love to share their tips, tricks or notes that helped with the NCLEX (or TEAS or whatnot), but this is a PUBLIC forum, and a great place for spammers to collect e-mail addresses, especially in these threads where a zillion people are posting them. Keep yourself protected and your info private!! If you must share e-mail addresses, send them privately to someone.

From the posting rules: For your protection, do not post real names, phone numbers, or email addresses.

Carry on.

It's also worth noting that there are many free disposable e-mail services. I use Mailinator, personally. Once contact is established, you could always give your real email to the person.

I totally agree with the advice in the original post. With all the spam-bots on the world wide web scanning web pages for email addresses and contact information, it would be wise to not openly post one's personal info.

Thank you for posting this. I knew I couldn't have been the only person who thought that this was unsettling. I cringe sometimes when I see phone numbers and personal email addresses in forums:nailbiting:. I hope more people see this, and make some safer choices!

Should I add this post to the TEAS forum? Admins, please weigh in! I know duplicate posts aren't generally "cooth".

Yes, you can post this in the TEAS forum. However, change the title a little bit. Change enough of the words around in the body of your post so that it will not appear as a duplicate on our search engine optimization.

I agree. I even tell this idea to my friends. It is a lot safer not to put your e-mail addresses on the internet, and all your private information like home addresses, phone numbers, real name, etc. The world wide web poses very high risk on private information.

I find it difficult to believe that anyone would be so foolish as to put their email address in a thread. But then again, there are those who use their real names as user names and their photos as avatars, so what do I know?

There are SO many threads with tons of e-mail addresses, which is what prompted this post. I'm floored. Look in the TEAS forum, this forum, even some of the other Nursing Student fora. It's bad.
