Hello everyone!

So basically I am currently in my last semester of my sophomore year taking prereqs for nursing. I have taken chem, A&P 1 and 2, psych, and about to take my finals for microbiology and nutrition. I have an A in psych, C in chem, and a B in A&P 1 and 2 (I took A&P 1 over because when I took it during the summer, I got a D+ so I took it over and got a B). and I think I'm going to get a B- in micro and an A- in nutrition. I've just been so discouraged from my grades and I feel like I might not get into any BSN nursing programs and I don't really have anyone to talk to about this so I'm hoping you guys can help. I'm thinking about taking pathophysiology next semester and then apply to nursing school spring of 2018. but the thing is I don't know if I should apply to an associates degree program or a BSN program. my long term goal is to be a NP with a doctorates degree but I'm not sure if that's possible at this point. also if I do get into an associates degree program, will I get my degree earlier since I already took most of the courses? please if you have any type of information it would be extremely helpful! Thank you in advance!

Im just going to be honest and say its not looking good for you. Why dont you apply to both associate degree and bachelor degree programs and see if you get in?

do you know of any associates or bachelors programs that accept students in spring semesters? (preferably in the eastern area like Pennsylvania, NY, NJ, CT)

I would say that you should apply to both BSN and ADN programs. You won't know if you won't be accepted into a BSN program unless you apply. This wasn't the case for me when I was applying to nursing school because the local University was "closed" to all 2nd Bachelors students and that included those wanting to apply to nursing school. So, apply and see what happens. If you do not get in, try again until you do. Sometimes persistence pays off!

thank you so much! as for the associates program, do you know how long it could take for me to get the degree since I already completed most of the courses for it? or would it still take the regular 2 years?

Generally, it will take you 2 years once admitted to the clinical program. A BSN may take 2 or 2.5 years.

You could try applying to private schools. They usually accept people with lower GPA's. It's just the cost to attend is ridiculous. I hear at UIW (Texas school) they accepted someone with a GPA of 3.0 and TEAS of 65. They have a really high passing rate for NCLEX.

Apply to available nursing programs, even those where you don't think you have a chance. You never know. A program might institute an unpublicized and/or temporary change in policy that will allow you to be admitted. If even one program admits you, you are ahead of the game.

Hello,

I applied for both BSN and ADN programs, I was accepted in to an ADN program in Texas and it took 2 years. In Texas both the ADN and BSN programs are just as competitive. I finished my ADN and did RN to BSN through Texas Tech university in 6 months. Honestly grades are super important, but as they've mentioned you wont loose anything by applying, eventually someone will take you. Good Luck!!
