Fill in the blank with any advice you can give students who have just been accepted into a program or who are thinking about embarking on the journey of nursing school.
Here's mine:
DON'T GO INTO NURSING SCHOOL IF you haven't done your own research about the realities of the profession. Good, bad, truth, and common myths & misconceptions.
Yall's turn!
... if you are dead certain sure you will be an (x, y, or z) kind of nurse; you have no idea what kind of nurse you will be. Even though you think you do. Really.
This. I circulate between the idea of about 5 or 6 different specialities per day. I also realize that it's probably 99% likely I will end up in none of those. Lol
Don't go into nursing school I you don't know how to prayer. Believe me, you will learn how to pray and cry out to God in the process of nursing school.
I entered and departed nursing school with my agnosticism intact. But I definitely agree that everyone needs some kind of emotional/mental support! I bawled like a baby in my mother's arms a few times!

Neither praying nor belief in God are requirements to be a nurse. There are plenty of atheist/agnostic nurses out there. I entered nursing school as someone who had been raised Catholic going to church every Sunday for 18 years. I graduated completely Agnostic. If anything, being a nurse has made me believe LESS in the existence of a higher power.
Don't go to nursing school if you are easily intimidated (Take an HONEST look at your own personality!).
...if you don't have a sense of humour. Every day (as a nurse) you will be greeted with the absurdity of the species. Sometimes, you can only laugh.
...if you're looking for a less stressful occupation. Unless your present occupation involves people using you for target practice.
... if you're lousy at science.
... if you're not prepared to go to bed at midnight just to get up at 0400 to go to clinicals.
...if you are not prepared to read (and know) 20 chapters a week.
...if you have a rough time dealing with stress.
As others have said, don't expect to change the world. It's a lot bigger than you and generally, it doesn't care.

I actually think pot should be legal but that is a different topic for a different thread.
