Does your school do this?~alternate list

Published

I just found out yesterday that my school has an alternate acceptance list of 30 people. Apparently they send out three different types of letters. One acceptance, one alternate and one denial. My CC accepts 120 students in Spring and another 120 in Fall. They send out 30 alternate letters letting people know that if someone doesnt take their spot in the nursing program then they have a shot to get in. I think this is awesome but what gets me is that the alternates come to our orientation and it is then that they are told whether or not they have a spot. If I were on that alternate list I would feel very awkward being at a nursing orientation meeting that I might not be a part of if someone doesnt accept their spot. We are given a card to send back to the nursing dept letting them know whether or not we are accepting our spot.

On the other hand, I think it is great that they do this alternate list so they have the people picked out to replace anyone unable to take the spot.

Does your schools do this? Did anyone get an alternate list letter?

I attend a private college with only 30 slots. They don't send out 3 different letters but do have an alternate list. If a denial letter is recieved, it will tell you what the cut-off points GPA were and where you stand if someone fails their current class or declines the spot.

All this is sorted out BEFORE orientation, so that when orientation rolls around only those people attend.

Good luck to you. :)

The alternate list is called the waiting list. i am # 19 on that list for the campus I want, but chances are I'll be driving to the farther one.

We do have an alternate list, but the alternate's don't come to orientation. They are notified of acceptance beforehand.

My school doesnt have a waiting list per se. Anyone can apply each semester and they pick there acceptee's from all the applicants. The ones that didnt get in have reapply the next semester. They dont automatically get in the next time around. Our alternate list will have to reapply next semester. Oh and at my school, if someone fails out the first semester they dont fill that spot with another student on the alternate list.

Good Luck Achoo! I hope you get a spot soon at the campus you want!!!!! :)

My community college has three levels of acceptance, 1 is full time RN program, 2 level is part time RN program that takes I think 9 quarters, 3 level is a place in a lpn program at a local technical school that bridges back to the RN program in the second year.

Nope. They don't send out 3 letters, and alternates are not invited to the orientation.

I think they do make a ranking list, but they do not share any information about it as in which number you are. I did e-mail and found out that there were 15 students that had a 4.0 that didn't get accepted, and 15 that had a 3.77 with all the support courses completed.

So, all I know is that I'm somewhere between 16 and 30.

.....That's why I'm retaking my Algebra starting 12/19. My B has to be an A. :(

There's not a wait-list. Everyone not accepted must pick up their application, and then reapply for the next semester.

This year was my second time to apply. Last year I got just a denial letter but this year I got the alternate letter. I made plans to attend the orientation that was required and just before orientation I received my acceptance letter! Hang in there if you do receive an alternate letter, you can't imagine how many people go to orientation and then decide that this is not for them or how many people get in elsewhere and choose to go to that school! I was a little bummed when I got the alternate letter but man was I happy when I got the acceptance letter! I just finished my first semester with 3 more to go! So hang in there and good luck!!!:)
