Does your hospital have a prayer or some other inspirational message overhead?

Every Wed and or Thur, when our chaplain is at our facility (hopefully full time) she does a nice message or prayer for the family and staff. I really enjoy them. It sort of helps center my day.

When babies are born, they play "Happy Birthday"

Anyone else have something like this?

I like the lullaby for the newborns and have seen (or rather heard ;) )that in a number of hospitals.

Religion-based hospitals where I've worked have had morning prayers and before-meal prayers. They've been non-denominational and I've appreciated them.

One hospital had a "happy birthday" message whenever a baby was born. The new daddy got to play it. It was just the first "happy birthday to you" notes, not singing. Everyone loved it. I remember one time triplets were born and one after another the happy birthday was played. Everyone I was near just stopped what they were doing and smiled.

When I worked at a hospital they didn't pray or anything over the speakers.

As a patient in labor with my first there was a prayer, the only thing on tv was mass (Sunday), and a very sweet nun came by the room to encourage me. The only thing that bothered me is I am not Catholic so I wish there was *something* on tv besides mass during early labor.

I hate to be the bad guy here. But don't you think it would be best if hospitals didn't pray over a loud speaker. Not everyone shares your religion kinda like a moment of silence. And i agree with Flo. It's hard now a day's to know what is proper and what's not. So best not try anything.... Anthony

I used to work in a Catholic hospital, and didn't care much for the daily prayer. Didn't bother me too much, but it did bother some patients. It was the only hospital for hours around, so there was little choice as to which hospital to attend. The prayer just seemed like it was forced upon everybody regardless of religion.

I have a HUGE problem with playing Brahm's lullaby when a baby is born. I had to hear it when I was just coming out of anesthesia for a D&C after my first miscarriage. A couple years later, I had to hear it 4 times the day I was admitted to L&D to deliver my stillborn son. It really seems like rubbing salt in the wound for all the women who still feel the sharp pain of miscarriage/infant loss, or those struggling with infertility. I believe that pregnant women and parents of newborns get enough positive attention in everyday life that a silly song in the hospital should be skipped.

We have a prayer that plays at 9pm... right at the height of ER madness...

Our hospital tries to keep paging to a bare minimum. They once tossed around the idea of a daily prayer or devotional, but it never happened. They decided that it would be too hard to find something that wouldn't offend someone. The area had a huge population of Greek Orthodox and a huge population of Church of Christ and something that would be alright to one of those groups would likely offend the other. The hospital also has a lot of staff that aren't religious at all and they didn't want to make them uncomfortable.

I work for a large catholic based hospital system. Prayers are said over the intercom at 0700 and 1900

given the USA is meant to be the land of the free and a land of tolerance and respect for the diversity of the the populace ... if you can't answer that question ...

No reason to be snarky. I didn't mean to have it come across that way. Maybe I should have prefaced it with a smiley face, so here....:)

If people have a different opinion (I don't look upon it as a disagreement)I'm going to ask why! That's the beauty of the human race. Everyone has their opinion and I respect that. Haven't you learned and grown from hearing what others think?

I just asked a simple question on what others experience in their own facility, that's all. There is no hidden agenda in the post.

I'm not overly for and or against either the HB song or the prayer. I do like the inspirational messages in the morning. They are inspirational for healing and dealing with difficult days.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I have experienced 2 late term losses, and also miscarriages. I see both sides to the song, I really do. I'm not for or against, again, just wondering what everyone else does in the world.
