I don't have orientation until the 11th of August but I was told by a student ahead of me to start reading because we will be given a lot of reading assignments at orientation and will have a test on the material the first week of school. I immediately pulled out my Fundamentals book and started reading so I could have a head start. Is this normal? Does anyone else have homework already as well???
Whew! I dont have any so far, but that may or may not change. Our school didnt even release our book list yet, so I doubt we'll be getting any early homework.Hopefully we dont though, because Im already loaded with enough from the summer classes Im currently taking
Schools are required to provide you with a list of textbooks when they publish the course catalogue. New federal legislation -- so go get 'em!
Yep, we need to learn skills on our own (reading, videos, quizzes online) and be prepared to perform them in lab Aug. 23 - Sept. 3. We received an email that said not to expect demonstrations, as we should already know the skills. Seriously?
U of M? Either we're in the same class or our schools are exactly the same. I got the same email. I'm at the library right now starting in on my videos! I wasn't expecting to start studying until after classes started! WTH?! Goodbye summer, it was nice knowing ya!
Even if the professors don't assign any homework for the summer...you still have a lot of homework to do---review what you don't remember from last semster. At least that's what I do. In highschool, you had teachers teaching you and reminding you about the assignments; and in college you have to teach yourself and remind yourself. It's all about responsibility.

Yep, UM. I understand that we need to gain competency in these skills right away, since our first class experience is actually clinical, but no demonstrations -- really? And I think that we don't get checked off on these skills until the first week of Sept... So there's a lapse between learning and check-off...
But then again, I knew this was a 12 month program when I applied.
I can't believe you're studying already!! I'm going on vacation this weekend, through next week, and I'll end my summer/start studying after that.

Yeah, I wasn't too happy when I heard there were no demonstrations...and yes, I started studying already. I have no previous healthcare experience, so I feel like I'm already behind. I thought they'd be teaching us skills, but apparently not. (Plus, I'm totally type A.) I had a decent run this summer...no vacation, but plenty of time by the pool. Have a great vacation!
So far no homework and doubt that we will have any reading assignments before class (we start on the 16th registration is on the 12th-but who knows). But I am curious what type of programs you guys are in? maybe there's a correlation between program length and early assignments lol. I'm about to start a 5 semester ADN program.
I'm starting a 5 semester ADN program as well
i don't have any homework from ns, but i am doing personla homework. i'm going to watch videos of skills learned last semester. i really can't read ahead of time since i don't know what chapter the instructor will have us start at.
i'm in a 5 semster adn program, and this fall i will be going to the second semester which is level i. the clinicals begin this fall and i'm more excited than nervous.
