Does anyone else feel lonely?

I know we're doing this with classmates and we have people around us at home in most cases, but does anyone else feel like you're all alone in your own universe and you can just sort of see everyone else "out there"?

I know I just feel overwhelmed and no one at school can really understand (or have time or mental capacity to deal with) my home issues and no one at home can really understand my school issues. So I sort of feel left all by myself to deal with everything...and very lonely.

Is this normal or happening to anyone else or am I a prime candidate for a psych consult?:o

Please give me any sort of imput on this.

Thanks,

Alyssa

(((((Alyssa))))) :) you are not alone!

Thank you everyone. I cried. You are all so... well you are all wonderful. I feel very lucky to have you to lean on when I need it the most.

Some of you know I lost my son to SIDS a few years ago. The rest of you know it now. I've really been feeling the worst I have since I got over (well...you know) that. I 'm sure it's the stress. But , wow.

Thank you again and I wish I could give hugs to all of you in person.

I gotta tell ya...loneliness was a big part of my life in the past. I started school married (I thought happily) and now am divorced (it's a good thing), and still in nursing school (less than two years to go), and working full time in the ER.

I found that journaling was a wonderful way to "get rid of" feelings that were negative. Have been doing it for over 6 months now and it really helps. The nice thing is that you can write whatever and about whomever you want and no one but you know about it (if you don't live alone, find a good hiding place to keep it away from prying eyes).

Give it a try and see if it doesn't help. You don't have to write in it every day, just whenever you feel like it! Hope this helps.:)

Wow I can't believe I found this message board. Being lonely has been a big part of this for me but has anyone else been scared whitless??? Loneliness has been a big factor in class especially because I am 40 just starting school and I'm a little older than most of the other students.

I have zip confidence in all of this, clumsy when I'm doing return demonstrations, and not quite sure what to study for exams. Right now I've spent an hour on one question in my syllabus because I can't find a good "book" answer to a question. I know it should be common sense but I can't seem to articulate what I'm thinking. The question is - How could you adapt your care for comfort regarding personal hygiene for a client who is very difficult to turn or for whom it is very painful to move?

I'm not exactly sure how message boards work or if I'll ever be able to find responses, posts, etc., but it sure felt good to write this down. Maybe that journaling idea is a great one - I'll give it a try. Hope I find you again. Thanks for listening. Kim:confused:

kim, and welcome! you could start a new thread to get your question answered, if you like.

Hey there!!!! You are totally not alone!!!! It's ok to feel that way and I doubt that there's anyone out there who can't say that they have felt the same way at some point in time. My suggestion def is to vent out your feelings, either here or in some type of journal so maybe you can see if there is some underlying issue making you feel so down!!! If you think that it is interfering with your optimal performance or relationships, you may want to go talk your feelings over w/ someone professional....there is nothing wrong w/ that.. it is a good way to key in on what may be going on!!!! But know that you are not alone!!!! feel free to PM me or to vent some more on the site....

chin up...think of all the good u will do soo soon when you are a nurse!!!!

Oh - I forgot to mention --- I'm already seeing a professional. I totally agree there is nothing wrong with it. I'm pretty sure I know the source of my worry. I have a 54 year old husband, and let me say this ---- with all the reading you've done so far, you'll get it. He is a 40 year diabetic!!! I have SOOOOO much experience to apply to my education and quite a head start on pharmacology. :chuckle He is a textbook diabetic. Eye involvement, some diffuse heart disease, stroke in 2000 and we're working with a transplant (kidney) team now just counting down til his function is nearer 12-15% (about 20 now). Fortunately we have a donor - his siblings all match and have decided his sister will be it. Before his stroke, we had paramedics here once a month (or more) because of hypoglycemic events. We were on their Christmas card list I think. After years of that (with me harping on him about it) and a nephrologist telling him the best way to avoid a stroke and slow down kidney deterioration was to go on insulin pump therapy, he finally had his stroke and I ordered the pump on the grounds of the hospital while they were doing his followup after the MRI. Enough about that tho....

I appreciate reading all of everyone's postings ---- they sound SO much like me in many ways hence appeasing that lonely side. (THANKS!!!) Especially, the person who thought they got a B but actually had 3 right and got her A. The VERY same thing happened to me on my second exam. They are the craziest darn tests. Not like any other testing I've had. Out of the 4 choices, 3 COULD be right but there is that BEST one. The only reason I got the 3 right on that last exam was the instructor realized EVERYONE in the class got the same ones wrong and threw out the questions.

I better get. I am somewhat of a rambler. Sorry. I got up at 5 to study more for my test today at 8, and here I am, "jacking my jaw" so to speak. Thanks again. Kim

Hey Alyssa~

I can relate to the feeling your having. I too feel that way at times, cause the kids and hubby just don't get it. The studying and the constant reading and the tests and quizzes, and the bills piling up and the dogs needing fed, and the hubby whining and the kids needing this or that....

yes, I can relate.

{{{HUGS}}} to you and we can do this. We can make it. :)

Love, Julie

Alyssa and Julie-

Hang in there guys, you can do it!!! I am a recent grad (Aug of this year)- married with two kids (youngest is 3). I've done the 5 a.m. thing (for me-it was usually 3 or 4 am!)studying and going to school all day to come home and do cleaning and cooking and everything for everyone all the time, not to mention the financial need to work weekends. But you can do this. You give up alot- and feel it a hundred times over, but all your hard work will truely pay off.I had some major marriage problems, problems with my oldest, bills piling up and all that too.But I can honestly say that the first time I held my actual license in my hand- and knew I would be ok, it was all worth it! Get help if you need it, b**ch and cry if you have to and hide if you need too. You'll find it much easier to breathe once you do. And you'll be amazed at how much each student in your classes feels the exact same way. Loney? We ALL were- each of us in our own way-those at home couldn't imagine it, and those at school couldn't imagine things at home, but we had each other, and you have all of us here too! Just look at the response you've gotten.....

Good luck ladies!:)

Yeah I admit, loneliness is a factor in my life. Working full-time and taking classes eats away at your people time.

People time???? Are you actually telling me that there are living human beings outside of work or school???:imbar Why didn't someone tell me??? I'll have to make it a point to see if I can find one!!! LOL!
