Columbia University response: "is committed to the principle of academic freedom and to upholding faculty members' freedom of expression for statements they make in public discussion."
Doctors want Dr. Oz off medical faculty
...Led by Dr. Henry Miller of California's Stanford University, the doctors sent the letter to Lee Goldman, dean of Columbia's Faculties of Health Sciences and Medicine. The nine other doctors from across the country included Dr. Joel Tepper, a cancer researcher from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, and Dr. Gilbert Ross of the American Council on Science and Health in New York City. The doctors wrote that Oz, for years a world-class Columbia cardiothoracic surgeon, "has manifested an egregious lack of integrity by promoting quack treatments and cures in the interest of personal financial gain." They said he has "misled and endangered" the public. Last year, Oz appeared before a U.S. Senate panel that accused him of endorsing products that were medically unsound. At the time, Oz acknowledged that some of the products he advised his viewers to use "don't have the scientific muster to present as fact."..Oz was not reachable Thursday night at his Columbia office number, which played a recorded message explaining how callers could get tickets to his TV show...

I would think Columbia having a fit over HOSPITAL OFFICE voicemail having message about Oz TV show tickets as OUTSIDE business interest..... unless they think Dr Oz PUBLICITY bringing in patients = $$$ for hospital coffers.

When an ED patient starts their CC with "I heard on Dr. Oz…" a little part of me dies. I worry about the idea that individuals will get their medical advice based on the half truths Dr. Oz promotes on his TV show rather than from a physician who actually knows, examines and (hopefully) cares about the patient and the patient's well being.

I saw an article on Medscape the other day about a study that was published recently (in BMJ, IIRC), that found that, of popular medical shows on US TV, including Dr. Oz and "The Doctors," only 1/3 to 1/2 of the information presented was medically factual. It also found that the TV docs did a v. poor job of identifying conflicts of interests, and identifying what info was their actual medical opinion vs. what they were being paid to say.

I want Oz off the air, not just off Columbia's faculty.
Yes! I really do not care how Columbia chooses/manages their faculty. I would really to see him stop spreading his twisted agenda to unsuspecting folks who think he has pure motives.

I'm not familiar with him, other than having seen him in passing on TV. Is Oz his real name? What nonsense is he promoting?
There is a doctor on in the afternoon that I've enjoyed. Don't remember his name, I think he's an ER doc. He's very good looking. He has a good show.

Yes, I know this is from Wikipedia, but I figure one questionable source of information deserves another:
Mehmet Oz - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ugh, he's a hack of the worst sort. Can't blame Columbia for trying to boot him

Glad to see physicians taking a stand against his nonsense. My mom takes everything he says as word of God. When I tell her it's bull and he's just out to make money it's blasphemy. If she won't believe me, maybe she'll believe the majority of Columbia physicians.

I think when he first showed up on Oprah, he provided a service. He was still a practicing physician.
Somewhere along the line, he traded his professional integrity for fame and fortune.
I'd turn the TV off before I'd watch him
