Hi Everybody
I will be starting nursing school this September :monkeydance: and wondering if most nurses wear rings to work. Mainly wedding rings. I would think that with the constant putting on and taking off latex gloves, hand washing etc that wearing rings would be cumbersome and worrisome that the rings/s might come off in the gloves.
What do you do?
The hand sanitizer that we use at work has a reputation for eating away at rings. My silver earrings have two spots of black where I touch them all the time (nervous habit), from the hand sanitizer.
I have a simple white gold band that I am not interested in offering up to the chemicals (not to mention the germs) that continually assault it at work.
We are, however, allowed to wear a wedding band or simple jewelery if we choose. Most of us don't, though, due to lost bands or ruined rings.

Well, I think it's ok to wear your wedding ring but I wouldn't advise wearing an engagement ring. They can tear gloves, harbor microorganisms and get dirty. I just wear a plain wedding ring.
I wear my wedding band and my engagement ring. The latter, although big enough but not huge, has never torn a glove in 30 years. There are times when I don't wear the diamond, but nobody is going to tell me to give up my wedding band. It is as much a religious symbol to me as headscarves or other head coverings are to those of other religions.

My rings are saudered together and are a set. The diamonds are not terribly high or blingy, but I wouldn't want to risk losing the set and I didn't even think about microscopic germs getting in or hand sanitizer being hard on the gold/diamonds/etc.
I wear my engagement ring to work. It means so much to me and I hate to be without it! It protrudes but I haven't had any problems with it except for the hand sanitizer eating away at the white gold. I would hate to wear it on a chain in case a crazy patient got a hold of it. When I get married in October (yay! ) I think I will just wear my wedding band to work.

i wear my wedding ring -- i never take it off. my husband designed it and a former patient of his, a jewelry designer made it for us. it's a wide gold band with the stone set in -- it doesn't stick up and is totally smooth so it won't scratch a patient.
