Do you think saunders practice questions will help me on the Nclex?

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

hey everyone

I took the Nclex in December and failed, using kaplan too. I decided to take the Hurst review for my next review, which I took, which I thouht was good, now I am just reviewing all my notes and doing 100 questions a day from various sections in the Saunders Q & A book 3rd edition. I feel that saunders is somewhat like the Nclex but not entirely. I have no other material to get questions from. I think alot of the books out their are just like saunders questions. Do you think I will be successful if I am practicing these questions? Plus I need more hlep on prioritizing and delegation questions and saunders doesn't provide to many of them. I am planning on retaking the exam next month, april. Any suggestions. :typing

I used the Saunders 4th ed.

1. do the quizzes for each chapter.

2. score the quizzes.

3. write out the correct rationales for the questions that you miss.

4. Review the chapters where you score less than 80%.

Review common meds/nursing considerations

Quiz on your weak areas until you reach 80% on practice quizzes.

Review common lab values (K+, na+ glucose)

Plan on 6 weeks of study. Don't cram, put your efforts towards "thinking like a nurse"

Saunders is a very good resource in my opinion and it did a superb job in making me understand concepts when I read it. It's a MUST READ in my opinion (I also used 4th Ed and the 4th Edition Exam software).

However, when it comes to similarities with the real thing, I think Saunders is too well written. The questions presented by Saunders is very easy to understand but in the real deal, some questions made me read thrice and in each passing, I get to look at the question differently. The closest in terms of similarity for me is the NCLEX 4000 software.

So far, I used three resources:

1. Saunders & Saunders software -- I used for general review which I found to be VERY helpful.

2. NCLEX 4000 -- Because I was told it was a good software and yes, it is!

3. Linda La Charity's book -- Because I was told that this is a must read! And YES! READ IT!

Try Kaplan Qtrainer and Nclex4000:yeah:

There are people who post that they passed and Saunders was the only resource they used. Others used two or more resources. It is up to you. The best thing you can do, after attending review sessions, is to do as many questions as possible and to study the rationales for both the right and wrong answers. Good luck.

I tried the Saunders questions, and thought they were too easy. I like the NCSBN website, after all, they're the ones writing the actual questions on the NCLEX!

Go here: http://www.learningext.com/ It's about 50 dollars for 3 weeks, but they have a lot of delegation, prioritization stuff.

Good luck, I know you'll make it!! :redpinkhe

This is my thought as well. I'm going to do the Saunders questions, but I have had my book for almost two years and I have about wore the questions out.

I'm going to purchase a 4th edition plus to this website...I think that should be sufficient. I'm also going to allow about a month before I take the test...I want to take it ONCE.

it has helped me in a way by teaching me the strategies on how to answer the questions. when i took the exam it is as if the questions are new to me that is why i used the strategies i learned from answering Q&As. i would recommend it when it comes to content. the Q&A are easy compared to kaplan and nclex3500. practice answering as many as you can but be sure you understood the rationalization.

hey! i got the saunders 4th edition.. and i passed... i think the questions are really good and they give you an idea of how it feels to take the exam..... i used mostly the CD... and its awesome to create a study plan... because you can do around 1 or 2 exams... ( 100 Q per exam) and your done for the day... its very importatn you pace yourself and dont overload yourself on information all at once..... i loved saunders 4th....

Suzanne has always sworn by Saunders.

I think that some folks that claim that they use Saunders and that it doesn't work....answer the questions, but they don't read the rationales.

If you got it right, great, but do you know WHY you got the question right? If the question was worded differently, could you answer it correctly again?

That is what I think makes the difference.

I agree with this post. I took the NCLEX yesterday. I practiced using test questions from many sources, but those from NCSBN were the most like the NCLEX in difficulty level. Nothing, though, in reality was *as* tough. It got very intense for me by question #40, and I will be surprised if I passed.

I am taking a remedial course for the NCLEX-RN in Florida and the book that they sent me is the Saunders Q&A 4th edition. They make you do all of the questions in the book and at least 100 questions daily from the CD. So it must be the best book you can use to study with........Good Luck.
