Do you think lpns will ever be back in the hospitals?

Nurses LPN/LVN

So I hear there's been many time that they turn around an start hiring lpns for hospital again because of finances. Do you think there will be a turn around soon?

Specializes in Pediatrics, Emergency, Trauma.

There are hospitals that hire in on site clinics or in sub acute rehab hospitals. As for acute settings...who knows what the future holds??

I've never NOT been in Acute Care.

Specializes in Emergency Nursing.

My hospital was a huge into hiring LPNs 7 years ago. Then in the spring of 2012 we hired our last LPN (in my dept) and began zoning in medics. The medics use the hospital as stepping stones to fire depts while us LPNs have stayed year after year... I think it only makes more sense to have LPNs come back to acute care, but with the current glut of RNs, why would you hire an LPN when you could hire an RN for near LPN pay b/c people are that desperate for work!

Personally, I'd hire the RN for $16 - $17/hr

I'm in school for my lpn an I have almost exaggerated my financial aide because I also have a massage there spy degree so if I get my rn I have to pay myself. I really want to work in the hospital though.

Where I live, NAs make more than $17 per hour! RNs top out at around $48. LPNs at $33.

I need to move where you are! Lol

How well do you handle six months of winter? It's warmed up to 32F today!

I think this is a real possibility in the near future, at least in the US. With Obamacare and all the extra patients they will have, I will say in the future, the hospitals are going to need to hire more nurses quickly.

Never mind! Lol

In new jersey some hospital do still hire LPNs but is is super competitive. They expect so much clinical experience and they don't count the time you did in school as that. You can get lucky every now and then. I did home care for peds and that's the field I wanted to stay in. I am happy to say I finally got picked up by a pediatric hospital. It just constant looking and applying so good luck=]

Omg same with me so I have a part-time hoping that when I'm done Lpn school this year my job will hire me as a Lpn and I can go for my rn ,and hope their willing to pay for some
