Do you have a side jobs that is not related to nursing?

Do any of the nurses have jobs on the sides that are totally unrelated to nursing. I'm thinking to become a vet tech and maybe work just 2 or three days as one while making nursing my primary job of course..

Not really a side job but my friends mother is retiring soon from nursing and she has a part time job lined up as a clerk at the local gas station. I found it kind of odd because she doesn't need the money but I think it fits her needs which are: part time, less stressful and interaction with the people of the community (its a small town).

I am not a nurse yet (I finally start school in January), but a few years ago I graduated from a veterinary technician school. I could not find a job in my area, so that is when I decided to go into nursing. I never took the exam to be a registered veterinary technician, but after I take the NCLEX to be an RN I will be studying and taking the VTNE to become an RVT. Eventually I plan on making nursing my primary career and working as an RVT on a part time basis as well. I really enjoy the medical field, and even though things did not go as quite as I planned I believe that there is a reason for everything and am happy about my future career plans.

Specializes in ICU, ER, EP,.

I"m a wife, mom, house keeper, taxi driver, cook, daughter, friend and if anyone out there finds a way to have a second job, please, please let me know how it's done... the one thing listed was a servant to me, that's bottom on my list and I just never get there:eek:

I'd be a travel agent if I had the time though.

Same here lol

I left nursing for a few years after my husband suddenly passed away. Needed to be a parent when my kids most needed me. I opened up a cleaning business doing private homes and post construction. I was able to be home to get them off to school and home when they got home. No weekends, no nights and no holiday work. If they were ill I could stay home without the repurcussions of "calling in". I made decent money ($25-35/hr). It was well worth it and I dont regret leaving the Nursing field for that period of time. There were days I just had some workers go do the jobs and I could stay home if I just didnt feel like going that day. Honestly I loved it. My youngest graduated and didnt need mom for skinned knees and other things that plague children/teenagers so returned to nursing. Push to shove I'd do it again with the negative changes I'm seeing in Nursing field now.

What is RVT?

I think it's Registered Vet Tech, but don't hold me to it!

I've usually had a church organist position "on the side" most of the time I've been a nurse. I was trained as a classical musician before I went into nursing.

Yup, that's what it is. :yeah: I was considering doing that myself, but it's two years to make a crappy wage. Ah, well...
