Do you regret becoming a nurse?
No. Never. I've been burned out, treated like a glorified pack animal, yelled at, cursed, micromanaged, disrespected, "eaten", and even had my life threatened.........but I can't imagine wanting to do anything else. Especially now that I'm finally getting to practice my profession the way I always thought it should be practiced. Nursing has taught me more about humanity in the nine short years I've been an RN than I learned in all the thirty-eight that preceded my graduation; it has also taught me about the kind of legacy I want to leave behind someday when I quit this earth, and about the kind of person I want to be while I'm still here. There is nothing quite so satisfying than feeling a hand grasping yours and hearing the words, "Thank you---you have made a difference to me". Where else can you get all these benefits.........and be paid a living wage to boot?
No i do not regret being a nurse. It is truly one of the most rewarding jobs a person could have. also there is bad side to it, sometimes the resdients kick, hit, pinch, spit, slap, bite and all that other stuff. but just to hear a thank you or get a hug from somebody makes it all worthwhile.
Nope, I think most of what makes me wish I had never been a nurse are things I would encounter anywhere else. Politics, backstabbing, beaurocracy... You will find those in any profession (unless you are self-employed). I couldn't imagine being anything but a nurse, although some days other things look more attractive.
NO, I do not regret becoming a nurse. The everyday aspect of helping someone. The ones that appreciate your help will let you know. The politics I could do without, example, management wants you to work more because of the nursing shortage. But, most of the management went to the same nursing school, I did. They could cover some shifts, but they look at you like you just asked for a kidney.
