Do you have a plan B?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

As I sit here waiting until Friday when I turn in my application to the nursing program I'm wondering what do I do if I don't get in? I'm 30 years old and don't want to wait a whole year to apply again and possibly not get in again. So what else might I do with the pre-req's I've taken? Have you given it any thought? What are your ideas? I'm thinking maybe Dental Hygienist.

This is really causing me stress and anxiety. As I begin taking finals for my first two pre-reqs (A&P, Chem), even getting an A- is making me nervous because of the level of competitiveness for nursing. I recently became certified as a CNA, so I guess working as one in a long care facility or a hospital would be my backup if I don't get into a nursing program. And then I'd re-apply or re-take classes as necessary.

Good day:

I've applied to five different nursing schools (three A.D., one diploma-based, one BSN based; all RN able upon graduation). One school already rejected me; I'm waiting to hear back from the other four.

My plan B if I get rejected by all five is to apply to LPN school (there are three in our area); then hopefully get a job, and work on my RN nights and weekends.

Thank you.

I'm with cowboy medic. It's been a journey and I'm not even in nursing school but I'm going balls to the walls and not stopping. I will try until I die if I need to.

My plan B = politics :sneaky:

My plan B is to apply to other nursing schools. Until I hit plan Z which I plan not too change my goals.

I would definitely do something to be moving forward. Show the Universe that you know what you want. But anyway, why wouldn't you get in? Is it so competitive where you are?

If I don't get into the nursing school of my choice, I will keep trying a few times and try also at a local nursing school. If nursing school doesn't work out at all, I am lucky that the nearby university also has dietician program. This would be my last choice, but if all else fails it is an option.

I applied to a nursing program last year and did not get in. I did not have the option of changing my major, becuase nursing is a career change for me. I just saw Kvedaa's post and that was what I had as my plan B. I was going to get my CNA and apply to the nursing program this year. If you don't really want to change your major, that's a foot in the door!!!

Most programs have more than one application period or at least terms. Many of the local CC have one application but two start terms, one spring and one fall. The program I applied to didn't invite me for an interview, hopefully only because I have a class pending (I'd like to think my grades are pretty competitive), so I'm reapplying for the next term with the application being due in two weeks. If the ABSN program doesn't work then I'll apply to ADN programs and take it from there. I agree with justenjones, if you think you're not going to get in and you have a back up plan, somehow the universe can read that. Best of luck to you!

My plan B was to go into the Clinical Laboratory program and become a lab tech.

I don't have a solid plan B for another career, but I do have a plan B if I don't get admitted when I apply this fall! If I had to pick something, I would say physical therapist or hospital administrator, but I'm not even feeling mildly excited just typing that ;)
