  1. I'm a graduate of the ABSN program at MGH and I was very pleased with all the clinical sites and preceptors. The majority of my rotations were at Mass General, but a lot of my colleagues also trained at Brigham and Women's, too. If you're looking to stay in the state, it's very competitive especially in the city - unless you have good connections or have worked as a CNA/MA you might have some difficulty but a lot of the graduates landed jobs a couple months after passing boards. I'm not sure how the job outlook is for NPs though. Hope this helps!
  2. I have not looked into it/don't know if it would apply to me since I voluntarily quit my job?
  3. So, background.. My first RN job out of school was on a med/surg/ortho unit. I had wanted to quit a month in but ended up staying for 8 months before leaving to start a new job in community health/primary care. I ended up leaving a week after starting this new position because there was a severe lack of organization and training in addition to multiple other factors that made me feel uncomfortable. Fast forward a month and I am still on the hunt for a job (can't say I missed this part!). I know it may take a while for me to find something, but I'm really in need of money especially because I plan on starting school in the Fall for my Master's. I have been looking for part time/temp/seasonal positions in food/retail/etc. but i'm worried this will look bad on my resume? Any pointers or advice? The hospital setting was too much for me to handle, so I have been trying to steer away from that environment, and the primary care setting (at least the one I was exposed to) had nurses performing mostly secretarial work and only vaccinations/injections. What are some options that fall in between those types of settings? Much appreciated!
  4. Hi everyone! Some insight and motivation needed! I recently finished/graduated from an accelerated BSN program last Summer and passed boards in December. I understand the job market is tough in the state, especially if you don't have that many connects in the industry or any experience as a CNA, but i'm still looking for a job that's new-grad friendly. I've searched hospital listings, nursing homes, rehabs, etc. and I've recently expanded my job search to surrounding states (VT, NH, CT) but still no dice. Any recommendations or leads?
  5. Your grades and credentials look great! One advice I'd give is to stay organized. Organization is key! I would make a list of all of the schools you're looking to apply to and the different requirements they want applicants to fulfill. Also, look for employers, advisors, etc. that really know you so they can write you a stellar recommendation. Start looking at their essay requirements (if they have one) so you can write a well-rounded response, and try retaking those classes that you received a 'B' in if you really want an edge over your competitors. Good luck and I wish you the best!
  6. Just got accepted off the wait list. I am very excited to start! :)
  7. Just got accepted to MGH - hopefully that opens up a spot for one of you hopefuls on the wait list! Best of luck to everyone.
  8. @MsOHKASwillbeanRN I'm actually not a current student or a graduate of the program. I applied to the school the same time as everyone else here, but will be attending UMass Boston's nursing program as it is closer to home. I went to UMass Amherst for my undergraduate degree and I loved it! Can't really say anything else for off campus housing as I lived on campus for the 4 years, but I know many of my friends and acquaintances were able to get off campus housing in the area - especially in nearby apartment complexes.
  9. Also, the major hospital is in Northampton and will probably be the location for your clinicals. That's also something to consider.
  10. There are sublets and apartments in and around Amherst - try looking in Hadley, Sunderland, Amherst. Northampton might be a stretch but it's a really beautiful area. Also, the buses run daily and are free for students with their IDs. The rent i've seen varies I think from 400-1000, just check Craigslist.
  11. I finally came around to making a group for those of you who are definitely going to UMass Boston in the Spring! The group name is 'UMass Boston Accelerated Nursing Program '15' - Feel free to search for the group and request to be added, send me your email via private PM, or add me on Facebook (.com/stellakc3) and message me to be added. Can't wait to meet everyone! Rest up because the 15 months are going to be brutal! :)
  12. Have faith @Husky2011! I'm sure you'll get into the right school for you. :) @Lexielou22 At the information session, they said the start date would be immediately following memorial day weekend, which is the very end of May.
  13. For those of you asking about the deposit, the email I received from Kerry Boyd said that March 1st is the deadline for deposits.
  14. I took my classes at Quincy College and loved it. I think it depends more so on the instructor than the school. Try using ratemyprofessors (dot) com. If you're looking at Quincy College, I highly recommend taking classes with Trespalacios or Menard.
  15. It looks like I need to add people to the group before actually -creating- it, so feel free to add me on Facebook! I'm 98% sure i'm going to UMass Boston and I look forward to getting to know everyone! My link: facebook.com/stellakc3
