Do your parents have to wear cover gowns when visiting?

Just wondering if your patient's parents must wear cover gowns when visiting their babies. I'm not talking about MRSA or other contact isolation precautions...

A "yes" or "no" answer would be appreciated.

I've worked in 2 NICU's (externed in one while in school, and I now work as a RN in another), and in both, parents are required to wear a hospital gown over their clothes if holding their baby.

nope, nor siblings or volunteers.

The NICU where my daughter resided did not require gowns.

No. No one (medical staff, parents, visitors, etc) has to wear a gown, unless the baby is in isolation.

Yes, all parents that come in to our unit put on a cover gown first.

With babies in Isolation, we don't ask the family to put on the disposable gowns we wear as staff; they just need to wash their hands thoroughly before and after they visit their baby.

yes (in ours.)

Yes, they do. Although, it makes no sense.
