  3. I am an AA NICU RN!! when i started 2 yrs ago there were 5 AA RN's and now we have 9 (all women, no men) so it's improving...we have talked about the lack of diversity many times in our unit. not just AA but other races as well, asian, latino, etc. it's a 50 bed unit w/ about 120 staff members; most of them are white. oddly enough, all of our care partners/ NA's are AA except 2. there are a total of 9. (not very balanced) i'd like to go somewhere where there's a bit more diversity as well...gonna start traveling in sept to other NICU's...i think it will be interesting to see how different things can be.
  4. i'm gonna travel for about 2yrs....see where i like the most
  5. Crying means you care. And believe it or not, some mommies appreciate the fact that a robot isn't taking care of them or their baby. (Not saying that if you don't cry you're a robot; people express emotions differently.) I understand where you are coming from (NICU). It's OK. I have cried tons of times. I always feel better after. It means I am not numbing to the emotional issues that come with my job. We have a job to do yes, but if we need to take some time to experience normal human emotion then we should do it. You were right to go and take a minute to take care of yourself, so you could go back to taking care of your patients. Be strong! Never lose that connection! It's a Beautiful thing.
  6. so i'm looking at road trips? what's gas running out there?
  7. sounds like a normal reaction to an overwhelmingly stressful situation. I think you should leave. If it's making you miserable, if you can't feel good about the care you are providing because you're not getting what you need to do your job, it is not worth it to stay. You have to think about what is best for you. Too risky! Your license is not theirs to jeopardise. Be strong! You work hard! Go somewhere that's gonna help you, appreciate you, and not throw you to the wolves! AND notify the State BON. I am sure this is not legal, professional, or ethical treatment of pt's or employees. P.S. Let me know where this is so I can avoid it like MRSA!
  8. Hey Ya'll, I'm Angie in Greenville, NC I work in NICU at PCMH. LOVE IT!!! Been here for 2 yrs. However, I want an adventure so I'm going to do some traveling for a while. I am gonna miss this place; it's an awesome facility (the new NICU is like 2 yrs old) It's the only one I've ever seen so I fear there will be an environmental shock when I get to my first assignment, but hey....wouldn't be an adventure if everything was the same. I will be coming back though!!
  9. Hi everyone, I'm from NC but I start travel nursing in Sept. First assignment is Scott and White (NICU) in Temple for 13 wks. I used to live in TX but my parents tricked us into moving to NC when I was 12. Anyways...I am nervous excited! We were in northern TX then, so I know nothing about the Temple area. Anybody have any advice? I saw someone said Temple was a horrible place to live. Is it really that bad? What's the hospital like? What's there to do when I'm not working? It's close to Austin but I'm not familiar w/ there either. HELP!!!!! Any info is gonna be beneficial. Thanks in advance. NURSES ARE ANGELS HERE ON EARTH!
