  1. I no longer think this form is a good idea.
  2. Hello from ******** Hospital. You are in the unit everyday, everysecond and hear every word.? RIGHT and no the baby is not from Africa. Identifying info of hospital removed by moderator. Please keep HIPPA in mind when posting. Thank you!
  3. I heard somthing very sad the other day. I gave report to the oncomming nurse on an HIV baby that is very sick and she said "Ewe! I hate taking care of these kids. I mean what's the point? He is going to die any way" Is that not sad or what? This baby is sick, no fault of his own, he deserves kindness and compassion or am I just old fashioned. Anyway I said a prayer for this little one.
  4. Thank you for your input. This baby had 4 very good primary nurses that knew him very well and 2 fill in nurse that knew him very well. BUT after over 200 days they all just burned out, so that is why I was asigned to him. His parents are in jail and no other family visits. True he needs to be rocked and held. The Neo on that night got into a loud shouting match in a small office with the charge nurse because he wanted her to take my other babies (2) away so I could sit and hold this baby. There was not enough staff for that(inlies another problem). That poor baby has a misreable life because he has no lungs. None of the voulunteers will get near him to hold him because they are afraid of him. His Co2 are still so high no long term care facility will accept him. I am just praying he will some how get some peace and rest
  5. undefined Hi! I was just wondering why would you work in such a place? Is there no other department that you have interest in, other than the KILLING ward. I am one of those people who are against abortion in any form for any reason.
  6. undefined This past week I got the assignment from you know where. A s/p 22 weeker on DOL # 210. NO LUNGS or GUT, little vision or hearings. Blood pressures out of the roof, meds (3 pages ) like you would not belive. NPO because that morning he had had surgery #8, freshly extubated CO2 85 (Doc okay with it). This poor kid was unconsolable even with morphine, ativan and methadone. The only thing that helped was the swing and music. WHY DO WE DO THIS TO 22 WEEKERS! This kid has a misserable life! When I tried to talk to the Neo about what would happen to him he looked at me like I was nuts and said" Come on! you know hw is going to die" I still think these little kids are resus to keep the lawyers at bay. I cried all the way home. Does anybody else ever feel like this. I tried to help this kid but I failed.
  7. Like it or not race is an issue in this country. I do not know of a culture that would not like to see someone from there own culture in a stressful situation such as having a child in the NICU.
  8. Brown Betty I am so happy for you! I am just glad to know somewhere in the USA there are some African American (or as I call myself )& Black nurses in the NICU(. And by the way to anyone who is reading this and wants to know my 3 best friends are Caucasian.)
  9. Belive me I am relaxed! I love NICU nursing, if I did not I would not have contine for the last 14 years. What I am trying to say is 1. I feel the black inner city families would benifit from more black nurses in the NICU 2. Young teen mom with babues in the NICU would see some positive role models. I have not seen many black nurses apply to NICU so I do not think in my city it is a problem of not getting hired because of skin color. I put this thread out because I just want to talk with othe black NICU nurses. :chuckle :balloons:
  10. I totally agree with you on all of these. I have one more to add from my personal experence. I knew I was a NICU nurse when the Dr. told me I had cancer of the uterus and I would have to have all reproductive organs removed, I thought to myself well at least I will not have a sick kid in the NICU. I know that is really bad, but that is one of the thoughts I had:(
  11. Thank for the reply, in all the hopsitals I have worked there were black nurses also but not in NICU. Have you ever talked to any other black nurses and ask them about comming to NICU? Most of them I have talked to have various reasons why they do not want to work in NICU. I just feel that the familes in inner city county hospital were I work, would benifit from having nurses from their own culture sometimes. I would love to here more from you about your experiences in the NICU
  12. I have been a level III NICU RN for 13 years and have never worked with any other African American Nurses. Where is everbody. I have worked in 3 diffren hospitals and have seen no one. I work county hopital with a 50 bed NICU. I would just like to talk to some one of my culture about experences.:)
